Check your firing order. You may have cross-wired a plug. But I'm leaning towards a vacuum line, either loose (easy to find) or leaking (harder to find) . Also, check to ensure that the seal at the throttle body to air intake is intact. Mine got a little 'crumbly' at the bottom and I only discovered this when I was cleaning the tb.

Could be a fouled plug wire. Remove (and replace) one at a time, from the plug side. If you remove one and nothing changes, THAT'S the one.

I haven't done it, mine was done by the dealer under the recall (at 53,000 miles in 1997). You can call Toyota to find out if your's has been done under the recall. Toyota case line #(800) 331-4331. One little tip when reading the letters in your vin# over the phone say Victor instead of "V", David instead of "D" etc.
Here is the FSM for the 93 but they should be almost identical: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...fsm/index.html
I'm not saying your headgasket is definely bad, just a possiblity.

The VAFM is the Vane Air Flow Meter which resides atop the air box. The TPS is the throttle position sensor and located on the side of the throttle body facing the firewall.
do you have a toyota FSM (Factory Service Manual)?

Did you check the air inlet hose at the Throttle Body? You will need to take it off the check it. Mine was cracked on the bottom and I didn't see it, but it ran like crap.
