2nd gen W 50K

Hello, I have been lurking for a few months and finally joined. I just picked up a 2nd gen 4runner v6 sr5 4x4. It has 50K on it and has been dealer serviced. this is my third toyota, I had a 89 xtra v6 4x and a 72 fj40 that I put in a 350 and sm465. I regretted getting rid of both of them. I just sold my ford exploder so I could get the runner, I won't comment on the ford days, it was a dark time. I was fixing stuff on that thing every two weeks, It is not so bad working on a car you like, but when you hate the truck it seems to become a chore.

I will post some pics once I figure it all out.

I do have a question to start off, I was loking at all the suspension threads, and I understand a 2.5" cruiser coil will give about 5.5 in of lift. So by that reasoning a stock cruiser coil should be about 3" is this correct? I was also looking at the 1.5" downeys. I like Downey stuff I had it on the 89.

I was also looking at the 22 gal aux tank, and I am wanting to get springs that will be able to handle the xtra weight. I am leaning toward the Downeys, but if they can't handle the weight then I would go with a stock height OME heavy duty cruiser coil. Keep in mind I am probably going to go with the downey t-bars and ball joint spacers in the front, I am only looking for 1-2" of lift. I don't want to open pandora's box on this truck like I did with the cruiser. I have searched the archives and I could not find any specifics on the difference between the downey's and the cruiser, or any info pertaining to the aux tank. Glad to be aboard! thanks for any info.

Welcome to yotatech. A 2nd gen. with only 50k miles! Thats some find. I have OME standard coils on mine. This lifted the back end almost 2.5 inches. the back end sits about 1 inch higher than the front now . This is if your butt sags. The Downeys will level it out I believe. With the extra weight you plan on hauling make sure you get the HD's. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Yeah, the running boards will be gone soon. I was talking about that with a few of the AZ guys last weekend at an impromtu meet. Check out the pics from the Crown King run, My dad drove my 95 down the trail with the running boards on. the only damage was a bent idler arm. I was driving an exploder and scraped bottom all the way. I got to give the old man credit, he can pick a line!
