2nd gen upgrade

Hey guys, here's a newbie question for you. I have a 2nd gen (stock) and the low hp is really starting to get to me. If I got a K&N filter, intake and exhaust how much more hp am I looking at, what's the cost involved and will it make that much of a difference? I was going to wait until early next year to get a 3rd gen, but I may not make it 'til then. What do you guys think? Thanks fellas and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well I don't know about those specific things that you mentioned or anything but...I just wouldn't expect too much to come from them. I have a 3.slow in my '95 and honestly, its really not THAT bad but it could definately be more powerful...wait for some other guys to respond with some other ideas.

Good luck man,

Fink

EDIT: BTW - WELCOME ABOARD!

the way i understand it you can spend a lot of money on headers and catback systems and so forth but the power gain is not worth the amount of money its going to cost you to do it.

the only way to gain a lot of power efficiently is to turbo charge it (ive seen a few posts on the pirate4x4 board from a guy that has done it) but it was a completely custom job that he did himself, plus i dont think it was all that cheap either.

so if you really want a 3rd gen V6(and the 190hp stock that comes with it) then you might not wanna wait.

BTW.......welcome to the boards

Is it carbed or fuel injected? K&N's always are a plus. header and exhaust will help too.

In order for a truly good response we need some more info.

What year is it? What engine?

2nd gen truck and 2nd gen 4runner are completely different years.

Welcome to the boards, but remember, the reason toyos are low on power is they are high on longetivity.

Lots of info on this subject. Do a search or look at some of my older posts about getting more power from the 3.0L. IMO, save the cash since you are looking to get a 3rd gen anyway.
