2nd Gen. Trans Cooler

I've searched, but need some specific detail. I am moving back to Calgary in a week and those who live there know the weather. Winter gets to -40 C, and summer can be as high as +35 C. I was wondering if i installed my aux. trans. cooler before the factory one (in the radiator), would this prevent overcooling in the winter, as well as sufficient cooling in the summer? The cooler I am going to use has a cold fluid bypass (works on viscosity I think) and is the stacked plate type. Sorry for the long post.
Thanks in advance.
