2nd Gen stiff gas pedal

I just drove my buddies '92 4Runner (v-6, 5-sp, 250,000k) and noticed the gas pedal was very hard to push, I mean it really took a lot of effort to move. It was like the spring was the wrong size or something. It would return ok when you let off of it. Any suggestions?

Mine's a lot stiffer than any car I driven too, it's always been that way. I've never driven a 3rd gen though, so I can't compare the two. It might be normal or maybe the cable needs to be cleaned or replaced?

Mine's been getting stiff recently, too.

I feel this could be fixed with a 10 minute lube job.

Mine is also somewhat stiff. It used to be more stiff until I sprayed the butterfly, springs, and the inside of the cable with a silicon lubricant. This helped a little bit.

I hope that was some help.

Mine has seemed to stiffen up as well, and the engine is also not as responsive ever since I had to floor it and mash it into 2nd gear to avoid an accident... Could revving the engine too high alter something and cause this, cuz I shifted into second at like 24-26mph (something like 4500 RPM) and heard it grind.

Funny this thread came up. Just drove my buds '92 the other day. The first thing I notice is the gas pedal is a bear to push. Felt like it had a huge spring that was sticky to boot. I told him about it, he said it was always like that.

Mine's a bear to push too on my '86. I released the cable from the throttle body and it moved freely in and out by hand.

Do all of us have cruise control? That'll be my next check...

I have a 94 truck, 22r-e 5 speed, and it has a nice soft gas pedal, my sister has a 94 4 runner, 3vze 5 speed and it is really stiff, I haven't tried to fix it though.

my dads 92 has been stiff since day one, my 94 however, is easy as pie, or at least as easy as my nova with a single barrel monojet carb!

Is there a problem? My stiff pedal is fine.

Mine is easy to push. I did have that problem with my nissan though and after putting some injector cleaner in the fuel tank it would loosen up. Try that. It might help.
