2nd Gen Squeal when letting clutch out

I searched and most of the advice was for a squeal when the clutch was not depressed (TO Bearing). In mine it is when I am taking off, it sounds like I am peeling out or something but it only happens when starting from a stand still. Actually sounds like a squealing belt but this only happens when I am letting the clutch out and then once it is fully out it doesn't make any noise. Anyone else experience this problem. Doesn't do it when coming to a stop or going into other gears, just from a stand still. 4runner has about 135k miles. TIA

This exact problem happens to me. Although it isn't every time. Maybe 1 in 15 stops. At first I thought it was my power steering belt, because I was having problems with that also. I would appreciate help if anyone knows. I have a 94 Pick up, with just over 150,000 miles. It used to happen in 2nd gear as well, but now I have only heard it in first.

On mine I can only tell that it is coming from the front

Since it only happens when I am taking off it makes it real difficult to move with the truck and try to track down the noise. Like I said originally it sounds like a belt slipping but why would that only happen on take off. I can actually start to release the clutch and hold it where the sound starts to appear. I am stumped but at least I am not the only one with this problem.

I've thought about this a little and tried to think of a sensible reason for isolating this noise, but I can't logically think of why this would happen only on moving from a stop. The throwout bearing in my IS300 made a chirping sound with the tranny in neutral and clutch let out, if I lightly touched the clutch it would go away. I don't think it would be the tranny input bearing 'cause unless it always made noise in any gear. If you have high miles, you might want to get in there are throw in a new clutch, plate, and throwout before this problem leaves you stranded.

I know what the noise is. It is the clutch slipping. Most clutches don't make noise when they slip but the toyota clutches sometimes do under the right conditions. Mine does it when I am on an uphill and let the clutch out (ie. the parking garage at work). It is a slight (not very long) sound and it is exactly what you guys are describing. I have only heard it in first but that is not to say it can't do it in other gears. The noise is normal and nothing to worry about. All clutches slip engaging into first gear. I have the same noise come from a lot of the construction equipment I owned when the machine was under a lot of load and the clutch was engaging.

Hope this helps

Matt

OK, that would explain it. Just curious if everyone experiencing this noise has the original clutch in there. Anyone have an aftermarket that makes that sound? If that is the case I guess I will just continue to live with a little annoyance until it is time to replace the clutch and then upgrade to one that won't be noisy. Thanks all!

Mine was the original clutch. It lasted 333,000 kms (200,000 miles) and it was doing it when I was plowing snow (under load). My new clutch is still a toyota part and it does it as well. I don't know if other brands do it?

I have a 91 Honda Accord (my daily econo-ride) with a 5-speed, and it has made the same type of clutch noise for at least 2 years. I know the previous owner, and he said it made the noise for about the last two years he had it. The clutch (original) has 129k on it and works fine except for the occasional noise. It does seem to me that the noise is more noticable in damp weather. I intend to live with it, unless some other problems crop up.

Mine makes the squeel too with an aftermarket clutch. I always thought it was the linkage in the pedal squeking. Never have relaly figured that one out.

I just fixed the problem it was the throw out bearing on the clutch. It would make noise in the morning, in the cold, and then heat up and stop make the noise in the afternoon.
