2nd Gen S/C Gasket (why to NOT have the dealer install your S/C)

I was installing my new fuel injectors this weekend and removed the throttle body from the S/C as part of the process. Wouldn't you know it, the dealer who installed my S/C 55,000 miles ago didn't use the new gasket (the complete hole versus the original, restrictive "D" gasket)!

Of course the dealer doesn't stock the new gasket since it comes direct from TRD with the S/C.

What a pain. It is a simple gasket, so I'll probably just cut one from a sheet of gasket material while I wait for the dealer to figure it out.

If you have a dealer installed S/C I would recommend pulling the air intake tube from the throttle body (simple clamp) and flip the butterfly open to verify that you don't still have the OEM metal "D" shaped gasket. The original install manual claims an impact of 1.5# if you don't swap this out.

Another example why many of us recommend folks to do it yourself! Save a few hundred bucks, understand what is getting bolted onto your truck and know it's done right! But then again, us control freaks tend to think that way about most things...LOL

I have a 2nd Gen. supercharger on my 2000 4runner, and I noticed that the dealer did the same thing to my truck 35,000 miles ago. Are you sure that the supercharger comes with this gasket? If they do, I don't understand why the dealer would consider putting the orginal gasket on before they bolted the supercharger to the throttle body.

Hang tight guys...

It looks like I may have a contact at getting the "O" gaskets.

I will keep everyone posted. I should know within the next week how many I can get. They will be significantly cheaper than the TRD gaskets - which have reportedly gone for $15 or more.

4RUNNER: Yes, I am positive that the gasket comes with the S/C. I am afraid that the dealer installing the S/C may just pull the throttle body off of the original intake, bolt on the S/C, then put the old gasket back on. Just a case of not thinking and not reading the instructions is my best guess...
