2nd gen pitman arm???
I noticed that I have quite a bit of play in my pitman arm. I have found an aftermarket one for about $40. It looks easy to replace, but is it?? Anyone else replaced theres? I tried a search, but found nothing.
Thanks in advance for any help?

Did you notice play in the arm while it was on a lift or on the ground?
I used this at autozone.com for troubleshooting: http://www3.autozone.com/servlet/UiB...3d800501eb.jsp
Lots of good stuff on that site, good luck.

The pitman arm can have play in certain directions before it needs replaced. I forget which direction is the bad one, I think it is allowed a certain amount of horizontal "front-back" movement but I'm not exactly sure.

I noticed that if I grab the passenger tire and move it back and forth, the pitman arm has quite a bit of movement in it. The idler arm is connected to the steering box, this is the other one on the pass side.

I am nearly certain the idler arm is on the passenger side. I think the pitman arm comes off the steering box. If you can move the idler arm much at all, it should be replaced. I had mine done about 6 months ago.

Here is a write-up on how to rebuild it. I followed the directions without any problems. I think it only cost me about $12. It's very easy to do.
Good Luck
