Hi, well about 2 months ago I bought a rebuilt head w/ cam and put it on my 1990 22re. Last friday the truck just started making a knocking noise and It sounded like a main to me and all of a sudden it died. When I pulled it apart I found that the cam wasnt spining because the machine shop rigged two dowel pins in the cam with a broken one deep inside and the first one wiggled out (WTF!!! only 30 day warranty so Im stuck. WEll i put a new cam in now i can seem to get the timing gear and chain back onto the new cam? What am i doing wrong, Im trying to avoid pulling the front cover.

line the timing mark on the crank pulley up to 0 and have 1 one spark plug removed... with the piston @ tdc, make sure the 0 mark o nthe cam is straight up (little pin) and put the chain on the 2.....

the tensioner popped out, its on the passenger side of the motor, try to push it back in with a screw driver or some thing similar, and if the the cam did stop with the engine running i bet you have some bent valves, that was the knock you heard

thanks, ill try that tommorow. I know, i hope i didnt bend any valves, I just spent money on this head two months ago!
