2003 adding std features and lowering prices as of this month

I took the following off another site, and I assume it's accurate...

While the all-new 4Runner is up 35% year over year – an impressive achievement in a segment down 4% – we remain committed in our efforts to further increase market share. In support of this goal, Toyota Motor Sales is pleased to announce several product and price enhancements to the 2003 4Runner.
On SR5 models, we will significantly improve 4Runner’s value and broaden its market appeal by adding the attractive Appearance Package with color-keyed bumpers / cladding / license plate garnish, running boards, fog lamps, and 16” alloy wheels as standard equipment beginning with April 2003 production. This equipment will be added with no increase to base MSRP.

Prior to the arrival of April production units, all 2003 4Runner SR5's with the Appearance Package in inventory as of the close of business of April 14th will receive new Monroney (MSRP) labels to reflect new pricing and equipment changes.

As an added enhancement to lineup value, base MSRP for all V6 units delivered on or after April 15th will be reduced by $150. This reduction will also affect SR5 V6 units with the Appearance Package in dealer stock prior to the 15th (those receiving new
Monroneys).

Beginning with May production, base prices on all V8 models will increase by a modest $300. All V8 models will receive an upgraded standard tow hitch that will satisfy most Mid-SUV buyer needs. Also beginning with May Production, the Appearance Package with color-keyed bumpers & cladding and running boards will be added as standard equipment to 4Runner Sport Edition models.

Even with the addition of this equipment, prices for all Sport models will be reduced. V6 Sport prices will decrease by an additional $630, while V8 Sport models will receive a net price reduction of $330.

With the change in standard equipment, the option price for 17” alloy wheels on SR5 is now $100 and this price will be reflected on SR5 units with Appearance Package that
are repositioned on April 15, 2003 or are produced beginning in April 2003. + All SR5’s with the Appearance Package in Dealer Stock as of close of business on April 14, 2003 will reflect the V6 decrease in base MSRP of $150 and the change in standard equipment of the Appearance Package, Running Boards, and Alloy wheels. With the standardization of 16” Alloy Wheels, the 17” Alloy will be reduced to $100.

All SR5’s with the Appearance Package that are wholesaled beginning April 15, 2003 will reflect the V6 decrease in base
MSRP of $150 and the change in standard equipment of the Appearance Package, Running Boards, and Alloy wheels. With
the standardization of 16” Alloy Wheels, the 17” Alloy will be reduced to $100.

All V6 units wholesaled beginning April 15, 2003 will have a $150 decrease in base MSRP. This includes units produced prior
to April production that are on the water or in port stock without appearance package.

Base MSRP of all 5/03 produced V8 models will increase by $300 (Net Sport adjustment of -$330 after wheel/fog lamp credit)

Notice that the appearance package will now be standard, along with alloys, fog lamps, and running boards. Also, they are lowering the price on the V6 by $150 and raising the price on the V8 by $300.

This is a net price reduction on the V6 SR5 of about $1,200. Obviously there are some advantages to the economy being in the tiolet...

That makes me mad. I hope this is not true.

I could have saved several hundred dollars if I had waited. I wonder if Toyota will do anthing for those of us that they ripped off to begin with?

"All V8 models will receive an upgraded standard tow hitch that will satisfy most Mid-SUV buyer needs."

WTF does that mean ? Is my V8 hitch somehow inferior ?

JGage:

your hitch is not inferior at all. It's just going to have the hitch that will go up to 6500 # instead of the 5000# that we have currently.

I heard that toyota was suppose to change them for a small charge. I've already heard about the 6500# hitch from lexus as they were the first to say that they would be switching out the hitch for the higher rating...

personally, i don't think i'll be towing that much be begin with!!!

Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

I wonder how much the "small" charge will be.

I really like the cladding on the Sport Edition. I still say that years down the road a grey cladded Sport will look better than a paint chipped and scratched limited or SR5 with appearance package AP.

What they should have done was to get rid of the chrome roof rack, door handles and license garnish on the Sport and save that for the SR5.

MrTom:

this information is up on other boards with the same info... it's legit, verified by a fellow toyota dealer too

don't think you'll find it on toyota as it's a post that was suppose to be for the dealers only. one of the dealer just happen to be a fellow member so they posted the info for us it happen to come to this board too!

if you're interested in a new 4runner and have q's ask away we'll all help ya out!

I really like the 4th gens in black in the SR5 trim, looks real rugged. If I were to trade in my 3rd gen Limited, I would go for the black SR5 with the V8 Im not going to trade my 3rd gen for awhile and I love it. In several occasions, pedestrians will walk by the rig and usually compliment the rig. Several times people would ask me what kind of SUV is it, I tell them its a Toyota 4Runner, they usually say "oh really I thought it was a Lexus or Mercedes"Oh and when I was paying off the guy for the window tinting, he was asking all about my information to keep the warranty, but when it came up to the year he's was like thats a 2003 model right. I told him its a 1997, he was surprised. Not bad for a 5 year old truck

Lets see basically nothin has changed except Toyota realize what is popular and is going with it, no surprise their since all manufactures do it.

I get a kick out of reading post on this and other boards from owners who feel they should have waited cause they could have saved some money, how come you don't hear any owners saying yeah I saved 300 bucks

Lastly is their really a savings or is it just BS and numbers, you can tell someone the truck is 1200 less but if you just add the cost into the price who is gonna know not like people are comparing truck prices to the price of a truck 4 months from now.

What about ebay you can probably find painted and unpainted fenders etc... among other owners who are looking to trade

EDGE, if I read your statement correctly, it is illegal for companies to boost prices before a sale.

This is nothing new; they dropped the price of '01s about $1500 early in 2001. This was a couple of months after I bought mine. Yeah sucks for some, but then others had the pleasure of driving a new truck for a little longer. Buy when the time is right for you.

Competition is high in this crappy economy with other manufacturers and the fifty million other Toyota SUVs. I’m not surprised at all.
