2002 tacoma rust, help.

I'm hoping you guys can help or advise me. I own 2002 tacoma 4 door. I contacted a dealer to have it inspected, he has been rude and basically said its probably fine, and Toyota only covers frames that are rusted every inch of the cross members. I have complete rust trough on passenger side rear above the leaf spring bracket. Rust through is 3" long and about 3/8" tall. It's only on one side and its not like I'm a mechanic and know what to look for. But when I told him of it he said that doesn't matter as long as the cross members are good. Then he told me to hit it w a hammer, but I'm not gonna do that. Throughout places on the frame the rust is heavy, but the hole is my concern. I know its a box frame but it seems to me it would be an issue that needs adressed. I can not post pics as all I have is my phone, but any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated as my wife hauls our kids in this truck. Thank you.

Unfortunately I do believe the recall is over or at least that's what Toyota told me when I had them inspect my frame a few months ago.

Good, take it in. They should replace the frame under warranty.

I hope so, the closest dealer said unless the cross members are rusted through, every inch of them its not covered. Plus I live in middle of nowhere Nebraska and have to use a vacation day just to get it there.

That's a flat out lie. If ANYWHERE on the frame is rusted bad enough that a hammer will punch through it they will replace it. If this dealership gives you trouble, escalate. Take it to the general manager, and go higher if you have to.

You deserve to have your frame replaced.

Thanks so much. Yeah the dealer originally told me the cross member line. And when I mentioned the above damage, he stated,"that doesn't matter" thinking of driving to a dealer further away just to avoid his arrogance. Sure hope something is done, thankfully the main office of Toyota has been fantastic to work with so far.
