2001 4runner 2wd no transmission response?!!

Hello there YT members. Ive done a lot of serching through the forums over the years and have allways been stoked on what i find.

Ive serched my topic and found similar but not exact answers.

I have a 2001 runner 2wd sr5 that i recently purchased. (not driving)

a u joint in the driveshaft came loose and broke causeing the shaft to bend.
(some mechanic cut the shat at the slip yolk by the trans)

i had been in this truck to help diognos my friends (sounds) my guess was the u joints. everything else was working 100% before the u joint broke.
sat for maybe 2 months tops

got the driveshaft in and clean up, got to test drive throw it in D and give it gas nothing happens. just revs. nothing in any gears, no noises no grinding just nuetral. i looked under the truck while its running in drive and the driveshaft doesnt even flinch.

Ive heard similar things happening but only in 4wd model and the solenoid being dirty/ bad.

also that a weak battery could cause a solenoid not do its job, so i hooked up the battry charger clicked on the boost started it up and put it in drive and what do ya know it moved.

replaced the battery made it about 1/2 block then had to push it home.. sigh
it almost seemed like the clutch wasnt being let out. or the brake was on.

really wierd ?? replace the batt and trans works ? did i get randomly lucky for 1/2 block?

3rd member had no wobbles or noises .

couple topics show ideas and then not really what the outcome

So ... could it be a solenoid? sound like a trans failure?
wouldnt the trans make a noise (bad one) if it was completely effed?

I appriciate the help, and thanks in advance!

Yes , fluid is right level , doesn't leak.

Appears to be dark ( don't see shavings but darker than I'd like) 169 k doubt it's been changed more than once

shifter linkage all work all wires in and out seem in tact. I was scared it might be the 3rd but after making it 1/2 block im thinking it was the other end of the driveshaft
=(
no clunks or chopping like a missing gear tooth on the ring and pinion gears

It was making a clunk sound when engaging it into gear before the drive shaft broke.
(like a wor out u joint) having dealt with that in the past with other 4runners it was a u joint then when it broke i was assumeing it was the u joint.

u joint is in about 3 piecs when it hit the ground during the breakdown.

when i made it the small distance it seemed like i wasnt letting out the clutch all the way (if i were driving a stick ) but its an a/t.

then to nothing no response again. no noises grinding whining etc
