Question 2000 Tacoma sucky power

 I have a 2000 Tacoma with 2.4 l engine. It has low power in the lower rpm range (under 2000 rpm) and terrible gas mileage. I've change the plugs and timing chain with no improvement. I've also checked the fuel filter, fuel pressure and catalytic converter and allundefined are fine. I have noticed black soot in the tail pipe. Any ideas of what could be causing the problem?

It'd be easier to read without the red font over the dark gray background. Anyhoo, you should check the fuel pump and maybe run some carb or FI cleaner in your rig. Seafoam maybe?

How many miles on it? You might also try changing the fuel filter since they aren't the "lifetime" that Toyota advertises.

I had a 95.5 Tacoma with the 2.4. It had good power for a 4x2 standard cab 4 banger, got great mileage, and did exactly what I expected it to do. It also ran for 150,000 trouble free miles before I traded it in...

Try some SEAFOAM and a tune-up.

I used the Sea Foam and it did wonders for the truck. Thanks for all the help!
