I just installed new Billstein shocks and Moog springs on my 2000 4runner, now it's leaning an inch and a half to the drivers side! It's riding funny too, kind of twitchy and all over the road. I still have to install sway bar bushings and get it aligned, but can an alignment level it back out??

Im having some of the same problems with my 2001, but all my sway bar end links are broken, so that adds to it. I also haven't had an alignment.

The only thing I can think of off top of my head with the 1.5 inch lift difference...is maybe you didn't get a spring seated properly in the spring bucket on one side. Or...they sold you two different size springs.

I'm sure the loose all over the road felling has to do with your sway bar and alignment. Just a heads up...your killing your tires by not getting an alignment. That should be one of the first things you should do after installing a lift.

bushings should be here today then an alignment. the lean is really bothering me, the springs were all the same length and i i'm pretty sure we got them seated correctly, hopefully. could the alignment be causing the lean? I really don't want to have to take those suckers out again, we barely got them in with compressors that we barely got out!

aren't the springs supposed to be varying lengths for different sides (driver vs. passenger) of the 4Runner?

Yes...I forgot about that. Not sure what the reason is...but the springs are labeled "A" for driver side, "B" for passenger, or by color...depending what brand you have.

Good call hrt4me...it's got to be annoying as hell driving with you ride leaning. Especially knowing you just paid big money for it to lean...lol...hope you figure it out quickly...cheaply!

i got the shocks and springs installed correctly, got an alignment and installed sway bar bushings. i have to say i'm not very happy with the results. it's all over the road and still has a lot of sway. tires? michelin ltx m/s2. i'm thinking they are just too soft.

What Bilsteins shocks did you get? I believe the yellow ones are pretty harsh on our yota.

i think every lifted ifs 4runner handles like crap. now before you installed your springs. do u remember if one was taller then the other? would be the only reason u have a lean. driver side is taller to support the driver, gas tank, and battery.

Impossible to determine your problem without knowing if your lift was properly installed in the first place. Part numbers and pictures would help confirm a lot.

Everything is installed right, no more lean, but there is still more sway than I thought there would be . I thought the new shocks and springs would cure that.

Depends on the spring rate and shock type. You got too low a spring rate or too "comfort" a shock.

I've lifted dozens of ifs and if you use the right stuff it rides as good or better than new.

they were switched but were corrected. but it still sways alot, when i get it rocking and let go it keeps rocking around 4 times, just doesn't seem right, i thought i was getting stiffer springs i guess.

Did it sway before? Might need steering rack bushings.

it did sway, but it's not a steering thing it's a suspension thing. i think the springs i got are just too soft.

I had Bilstein HD's on our old 00 4Runner sport. I also put Moog replacement rear springs in it too. It sat level side to side and didn't have any rear end sag. However I just recently put Moog front "off road" spec springs in my 96 tacoma along with bilsteins and it sits an inch lower on the driver's side. One was labeled driver's side and that's where it is. But I have a feeling it might be backwards. Haven't had a chance to swap it yet to see. As far as body roll is concerned I saw a HUGE improvement after installing polyurethane sway bar bushings on ours. The original rubber bushings were almost worn right through to the bracket when I replaced them. But we bought the truck as a low mileage rig in 02 and it never handled as good as it did after those bushings went in.

I installed new bushings, maybe they aren't good enough?

Did you use rubber or polyurethane? Rubber won't make much of a difference unless your stockers were totally shot. And poly comes in different sizes. Install one too big and it won't work right either. Another thing to consider is what your expectations are. This is a 4Runner after all. I thought ours handled great for what it was. But you couldn't go tearing around corners in it like I can in my BMW. My Tacoma handles better too. 4Runners are a bit top-heavy.
