2000 4runner - aftermarket stereo install question

Have a new Pioneer DEH-P500UB head unit to replace the factory radio/cd player in my wife's 4runner. I have the new stereo wired and it works great.

Unfortunately, the mounting kit and din tray the stereo place sold me does not work/fit.... the mounting bracket part anyway. It isnt even a close fit... too large and I think it's for an earlier 4runner

I'm having a hard time finding anything online that looks like it will work.

Just looking for anyone's advice/thoughts who has removed a the factory radio/cd player and replaced it with something new.... on a 2000 or similar model. What years are the same as a 2000?

This is a limited although I dont think that should matter.

Is the new tray to tall? It should have a bunch of screw holes on the side and only a couple line up. Make sure the bag the kit came in says that it is for a 2000 4runner.

Betting the stereo place just gave you the wrong one.

I cant take a pic because my camera recently died. I'll see if I can borrow one tomorrow so I can show how it doesnt fit.

The bracket is actually too wide... it wont fit into the opening where the oem radio was. Here is the bracket....

I assume that your original radio was a double DIN size? I'm not familiar with that style of bracket. My OEM was a single DIN & I just used the OEM brackets & my pioneer fit perfectly. You could try to get a single din bracket & tray from a junkyard.

Check here for some pics: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/s...runner-156996/
Scroll down for the good pics.

Pretty much any single DIN pocket will fit, the one you have should fit so I'm not sure what's up. You can hit the junkyards and pull one from a Honda or another Toyota and it will work. Make sure you keep your factory side brackets from your radio that holds it to the dash. You could also go to Wal-Mart and get a single DIN pocket.

Got it installed. Went and bought a pocket kit and re-used the oem brackets.

Thanks for the help.

I just replaced my 3 disc changer with an Alpine that I had. Didn't need any adapters as the factory bracket bolts up the the aftermarket radio chassis.. Only thing I bought was the filler pocket for underneath and a wiring harness adapter.

This has step by step instructions and pics of how it all goes together:

I'm glad you firgured it out. Its hard to tell what the problem is when your not there looking at it. All the times I have installed stereos I've always used the stock brackets.
