2000 4Runner 5speed 4x4 5vz-fe
Hey so I have a warranty on my 2000 4runner SR5 4x4 5vz-fe and when i purchased it over the summer i noticed a sound that I didn't think was normal, but i was used to a manual chevy truck and was told not to worry so i went about my business... a couple of times I had trouble putting the truck into gear when it was cold, but after warming up and finally getting it into gear the transmission shifted normal. It happened a couple of times and finally I found the time to bring it to the stealership to have the warranty company pay for a check up... the stealership recommended replacement of the transmission due to grinded gears... well I was lucky because I had purchased a performance clutch kit from URD to go up while they had the tranny off... and I also get the old transmission back because there was no core charged envolved when purchasing the replacement transmission... So now I am looking for rebuild kits and threads/information on rebuilding the transmission from the 4runner, BUT i don't know the name of the transmission... AND i used the search button. Any help? AND upon completion of the rebuild I am going to sell it...

the transmission is a R150- the only differences from the earlier models being a longer input shaft/different bell housing- for the different motor.
i thought that's what it was, and the website cleared it up for me.

That trans is very uncommon, so therefore not in very high demand. It will cost you more money to rebuild than you will get from selling it. The only place to get the gears is toyota directly.

so essentially i should try to sell it without rebuilding... but to lets say a remanufactor company... any suggestions? I am confident that I can do a good job rebuilding it, but like you said I want as much money out of it as possible

well see the warranty company bought the replacement transmission cash with NO core... so i get my old transmission... if I had to pay for a core id return it... so basically I'm up a transmission and want to earn some money of it... ha this ain't my first ro-deo but i'm new to the toyota world... so i can't return it for the core charge, and i wanted to gain the experience from the rebuild but like you said earlier its not cost effective... so who would want to buy a trans that is rebuildable... from my experiences in the past i've never made enough money by selling onesies and twosies parts to a used parts dealer... so what do i do with my extra FREE transmission that needs a rebuild? so the only thing i can pull from our conversation is i could make more money if i scrap the aluminum and scrap the gears?

I don't know if Toyota makes one, but I would start with a syncro kit. I have had mechanics tell me that once they open it up they will know what gears to replace. I don't know if it is hard to tell between the syncros grinded up (cheap) and the gears (expensive). I would say, open it up and see if it is the syncros that are shot. This will give you a little experience and may be more cost effective.
