Unhappy 2.4 Exhaust HELP

My 22re sounds like crap. I already have $250 invested into it with custom 2 1/4 inch single exit cat-back exhaust with a magnaflow turbo muffler. It wasnt loud enough, so I gutted the cat and now it sounds like a ragged out lawnmower. Any suggestions?

Are you loking for LOUD? or deep?

If all you want is loud, then ditch the muffler all together and have your exhaust shop braise on a tapered tip made from brass. but don't be suprised when you start getting tickets left and right.

I tried that first but it is too loud. I want a deep tone that is louder than stock but not as loud as no exhaust

My 22RE has stock headers, and cat. I put a Flowmaster 40 on it and it sounds great!

I was about to suggest that... but one thing I've learned... flowmasters sound best when they have a run of pipe behind them to modulate their internal resonances. I would suggest putting it as close to the Cat as space will allow, and utilize a full over-the-axel exhaust run. Putting them right at the end of your pipe has a neutralizing effect on much of the deepness. In extreme cases you can wind up with a 'fart-can' effect in the higher RPM's. (I somehow doubt thats what you want)

I put a 3" catback on my supercharged Sebring with a flowmaster at the end of the pipe under the rear bumper. It sounds bad-ass at idle and up to about 3000 rpm.... then it opens up into a full on angry mosquito blappy rasp. (on the upside it drowns out the Vortech, so I don't advertize my boost so much! )

Do they have a deep tone on a four cylinder?

My flowmaster has a deep tone. I love it. It's not like one of those fart can mufflers, it's nice and throaty through the entire RPM range.
