1st Gen exaust...?!?!
I have heard a lot of things possible for 1st Gen 4runners exaust.
I am just curious on the price, and which would be the best muffler to go with?
I want to get 2 1/4" pipe, but have heard people who like different mufflers for different reasons. Which would give the best low-end power increase, and a good deep sound? What size of muffler...sorry I really know nothing about it! Thanks for any help!

This chart is a good guideline for what size tubing to use.
22RE engines get by with 2" exhaust, and a 150 hp engine like my 3.0 likes 2.25" the best for low end torque.
The 3.4 engines can use either 2.25" or 2.50" for the best torque curve.
If you go to big of a tube on a small engine, you loose low end torque, but gain it on the top end.
How many of you drive on the top end all of the time
Look in my sig file here for my Exhaust page.
There are many rigs on it with sound clips.
I have the Magnaflow muff, and I really dig it.
I have a soundclip of Todd's 1st gen with the 3.0 on my page, and it sounds very much like the Magnaflow muff.
He's using 2.25" pipe I believe.

I went w/ a flowmaster 50 series ($65.00), a high flow cat($90.00), Pacesetter header ($135.00), and 2 1/2" all the way back... except for pipe between collector and cat is 2 1/4" for some needed backpressure. Only reason I went a tad bigger than norm is the cam I installed created alot of extra air and exhaust. Also used stainless tubing all the way down to hault rust issues ( I live in snow country). So far with all mods I am pushing near 150 horses and 180 ft. # torque (roughly). Sound's fairly throaty, even a bit loud at WOT... but it does move!!! Used to creep up hills in third, now it's no prob in fourth and sometimes fifth. All in all total cost of exhaust upgrade was app. $350.00 or so, as I welded my own and had a bender available to me. I have to agree w/ Corey and say 2" would be sufficient unless you plan on pushing alot more through it than stock

last august had a 2.25 pipes and proflow muffler put on. i had a new cat put on, but not sure what kind, or if its free flow or not :\ I had no idea to ask about that..... at first the setup was more loud than I wanted, but now, after doing a tuneup and lots of other things, its as quiet as the stock was. i did notice more power too.
I was most impressed with how the custom muffler guys routed my muffler. Its less likely to get smashed or pinched by a rock and I don't get any exhaust swirling in from the back....
