Hello all, I’m going to install a new head unit, front and rear speakers for my cousin’s 1993 4runner. Here are some questions.

1.) I need to confirm that the front speakers are 4”.
2.) What size are the rear speakers?
3.) I hear the rear speakers have a OEM amplifier attached to them, is this true? If so, I can still use them right?
4.) Anything out of the ordinary I need to know before I attempt to take apart the front and rear panels to install the new speakers?

1. dont even bother replacing anything to fit stock location.
2. rears are on a "plate". weird design...

4. dont bother with stock locations. dont bother with rear speakers unless you carry passengers almost all the time. best thing to do is mount a great set of speakers either on kick panels or door mounts (both are custom work -- but in the long run, your ears will like you). then just add a subwoofer.

i just replaced my front's with some 4" pioners, they are cheap but sound really good. I would say stick with the stock location b/c they have a box made for the speakers and would be nice to keep that. I'm pretty sure the back speakers are a little bigger like maybe 5 1/4

Leo is right, you only need two good door speakers and a sub in the rear to fill the whole cockpit of a 4Runner with great sound.

I would not recomend the stock locations in front, because they are at different angles.

I agree that door speakers would be a better setup.

3. yes, amplifier is on the back of the speaker housing. You can use it if you're planning on replacing the OEM with the same 4"
4. I replaced the front 4" with custom door pods, that house a 6.5 components. The 4" weren't worth the effot to replace, how much sound can you really get out of a 4" anyway? For the rear I took out both speaker housings. Replaced them with 6x9. Powered them all with an amp, and the system sounds really good.

the rears if i can rember are 6" or i think oversized 6.5" like i got in taco

A 4.5 inch will fit in the rear and will give you more options on speakers. The actual speaker size in the rear is a 5 inch. It is an odd size but some companies do make them.
