15x7 or 15x8?
Alright guys,
I am getting ready to order some Tech1 Rock Crawlers from www.4wheelparts.com!
All I need to know is:
I would like to be able to go up to 33x12.50's...what size wheel would I need to do that? The only dilemma is that right now I have 31x10.50's so I will also need something that will be able to fit those well too.
Also, what is the stock offset? I want the wheels to stick out farther so I am going with the 3.75" backspacing. Now I'm just guessing on that cause I don't know what the stock backspacing was for the '95.
I have the part number that I am looking on 4Wheel Parts so you guys can double check it: TEC51-58
That is for the 15x8 one...lemme know if that will work with my current setup.

15x7 is too narrow for 12.5's - you'll get funny tire wear.
I just got some MT Classic II's that are 3 5/16 BS. With 33's they should fill up my wheelwell and bushwackers nicely...

Chris,
Why not go up to 16"x8" while you are at it? Just do that and keep your other tires on your current rims and sell them to make up for the new ones. I think the OEM rims on your Runner are probably in the neighborhood of 4.375" backspacking like the 3rd genners so the closer to that the less issues you'll have with rubbing.

I will have hard time selling this setup around here...not a very big market for this kinda stuff.
If I were to go with the backspacing that I have set at now (3.75) will there be a big rubbing issue? I want the wheels to stick out a good bit and I am hoping that I won't rub too much...what do you think will happen if I go wth the 3.75" backspacing?

Stock BS should be 4.75"
I have 33x12.5's on 15x8's with 4" BS. They fit perfect in my 95.
If you use 15x7's, then you need to watch pressure so the tires don't crown and wear only the center as Mike said.

In this wheel diameter, the costs and benefits associated with using a 16" wheel are pretty heavily favoring the 15.
Wider selection of cheaper tires, number 1.
More side wall, number 2.
You're right, the wheeling that I do with my tires and rims beyond the fenders and the width that I gained from doing so is all foolish.

I'm probably never going to be doing as serious wheeling as some of the guys on here...the wider look would be mostly for...well...a wider look! Is there anyway somebody could get me the part number of the wheel on www.4wheelparts.com so I know exactly what I should get. Thanks!

I have decided on 15x8's but I need to know backspacing. How far out will a wheel that has 3.75" backspacing stick out? I just want something that sticks out a little. Nothing severe.
If it's possible an answer before too late tonight would be appreciated since 4wheelparts.com is having a Free Shipping deal until tonight at midnight.

Went with 15x8" 6 on 5.5 w/3.5" backspacing...that is what Flygtenstein recommended.
I will probably end up keeping the stock rims unless makes me an offer to buy them...you interested KING? Make me an offer and we'll see what happens...I have to wait until the crawlers come in and make sure they work first and then I will be willing to sell em.
I am hoping that they will be in this week...I will probably end up going to some place here locally and get some black lug nuts.

What would I need to fit 33x12.50's on my rig? I am thinking just a 1" body lift. I would definately end up going Roger Brown...how much would that cost? I just hope I can find a place around here that is able to do that...hmm...

you can get a 2" or 3" performace accessories body lift from rocky mountain suspension (rockymountainsusp.com) for around $75-$100, or you can call summit and they will match prices and can usually be to you in around 2 days or so. the 3" is kinda bad bacause it shows all of your frame.

Here's what I've been told:
1. Roger Brown 1" BL
2. Pound flat or grind down the pinch weld at the rear of the front wheelwell and "rework" the liner.
3. Some sort of lift coil in the rear (which I see you have)
I'm doing the same currently - the BL went on Saturday night, MT Classic II's are in my garage and BFG Mud 33's have been ordered. I'm a little concerned about interference with my Bushwackers due to the backspacing, but I think I'll be able to "clearance" them as needed. The MT's are 3 3/8" BS (measured this AM), so we're only 1/8" different in our setup.
You can definitely due the BL yourself. I used an impact wrench to get my body bolts off, but I'm in the rust belt. All you need is a floor jack and some wood blocks to lift the body. The rest is bolt on. No adjustment to the steering or shifters needed with the 1" BL. I left my front bumper at stock ht. since I have a grille guard (more trouble than its worth to move it)
The kit is around $95 shipped.
