Almost ten years (get it in 8/97) and 97,000 miles later, whats your upside and downside of your truck? My downside/repair happens to be power anthena (replace twice), cup holder (broke three year ago), paint on top of roof, couple of door dings, & now having a family wish it was auto instead of a 5 speed (too much spilled milk). Upside is the quiet ride, lack of rattles, bought one set of tires, orginal brakes (which I should replace). I still LOVE my truck. How about you?

Almost 6 years (purchased new in 6/01) and 124,000 miles. It's been a wonderful truck. Every time I vaguely think about replacing it, I realize that none of the current SUVs appeal to me. The simplicity of my SR5 4WD is great. May it continue to serve for many years!

I've had mine for just under 2years..and for ten years old it still looks better than most that are new--constanly people ask what year it is...she's a freakin 97' and and runs like a champ, no major problems let alone any minor ones and perfroms killer off road and on road trips. I put 176k on her this week and I must say I absolutley love my TOYOTA and I take pride in owning one!

I have had mine for 2 years, and its 18 years old. I love it, it is developing some suspension squeaks and a little rattles, and the prev owner destroyed it(had to rebuild trans and it burns 1 quart of oil a week!). On the upside, I always get people wanting to buy it from me, always get asked what year it is, and I always get looks cause I have black rims and a pink and a blue stripe on the rockers...hahahah

yeah, i think the new 4runners are yucky yucky, the 3rd gens are by far some of the best looking SUV's on the road.

mines doing great with 147k miles timing belt was changed at 60k front brake pads have been changed a few times needs a few little things other than that its all good

my 01 has just been paid off after $520/mo for 5yrs!!!! it's got 93k mi and all I had to do was oil change and 2 tune ups. I still have some balancing issues but I'm really happy with the way it has treated me

Mine's 11 yrs. old. 96 limited. I don't know exactly how it ran new, but at 146k it's still got to be darn close. Everything on it is still tight and worry free. I haven't had it that long, but I expect it to last for quite some time. my 75 landcruiser is still an extremely durable vehicle, still runnin on the original engine/tranny/transfercase and axles (with the exception of disk brakes, gears, and lockers). I certainly expect my 4runner to be cruisin the roads 20 years from now. It seems like every generation of toyota is looked down upon by the previous generation because of the changes. Then after they have proven themselves we can finally accept them as a real Toyota. I do wish I could get a diesel though. I'm sure the 4th gen 4runner will be the same.

It's also worth more than about any other 96 suv out there. Compared to a 10yr old explorer or pathfinder, the 4runner seems to hold it's value much better for obvious reasons.

I have had my 95 4runner for about 1 year now, and would not trade it for the world. OK I had major work done to the top end as It was having trouble after I got it. But now it runs like a champ, and as I said, I'm very happy with it. Also it looks brand new. No one belives it is a 95.

Bought my 96 back in December of 06. It had 147,xxx miles on it when I bought it and have since put about 7,xxx miles on it in that time . I've had no problems to date and it runs great (just need to take it in for maintance). Like others have said I wouldn't trade it *except for a 4runner w/ the elocker or a 01-04 double cab tacoma*. Great truck now to just pay it off and save some $$ for mods.

I,ve had my 98 for over 2 years now. Downside, had to fix the pawer antenna bracket (the spot weld broke). And just changed the starter contacts, PITA to get the starter out and had to wait over the weekend to get the parts in Otherwise everythings peachy. 143,000+ miles and runs better than my stupid Dodge mini van that's 5 years newer and 60,000 less miles. Last domestic car I buy. now i just need that locker.

My 99 has been pretty solid since I got it 8 years ago. Its starting to creak/squeak, but still running solid (knock on wood).

196K only trouble is my p-steering need to check belt then replace if needed. t-belt and water pump plugs and wires done this year.

That's it runs out strong got 21mpg last tank, with crap on the front(lights) and rack on top....

My 99 SR5 manual was bought new in May 1999 and has 90,000 miles. Clock failed about three years ago, just did the front A/F sensor, all rear bumper chrome and the battery. Had replaced the clutch at 70,000mi. (two teenage learners killed it). That's it--original brakes, even. Needs shocks soon. All maintenance by the book. Had one on-road failure that required a throttle-body clean to resolve; I have used Techron 4 or 5 times a year ever since. I love this machine, especially once I got rid of the stock Goodyear Wranglers. AWFUL tire.

Bought my 99 with 3 miles on it! 90K later its still fantastic. had the fuel gauge (instrument cluster) recall, a rear axle seal replaced and normal maint...been very very good.
