1/4 window latch replacement

1/4 window latch replacement
AAnnoying problem that I inherited with my truck, the pop-out window latches were broken. I suspect this is a common failure because the latches appear to be a little flimsy. The parts cost $30/per side from the dealer.
2 different methods for doing this. Remove the interior and replace the entire assembly or drive the roll pins out and replace the broken plastic link.
1. Remove the plastic piece above the rear seat back
2. Remove 3 bolts that retain the seat and pull upward
3. Remove the rear seat-belt shoulder guide/pivot point. (12 mil socket will do)
4. Remove the shirt hanger post
5. Gently pry the interior loose and remove the two 10MM bolts that hold the bracket onto the structure. (I did not have to remove the entire side-panel, just pulled it inboard to gain access)
6. Remove two bolts that retain the bracket
7. Remove the Latch from the glass. One screw, carefully pop the latch off the glass.
Installation:
1. Install the latch bracket onto the structure
2. Align the latch onto the glass. (an extra pair of hands to hold the window open is nice) It's hard to get to the screw head otherwise
3. Snug it down- remember it's glass so don't over-do it
4. Reinstall the interior in the reverse order.
Method 2 (shortcut). No interior disassembly required
1. Use a punch to and hammer to remove the roll pin from the plastic crescent shaped piece that is installed onto the bracket. Be careful not to break the glass
2. Remove the same piece from the new latch assembly. You will need a hammer, punch and a socket to support the bracket from underneath.
3. Remove the old latch from the window (# 2 Philips screw head)
4. Install the new crescent piece and latch onto the glass.. Again use extreme caution with the punch and hammer- One slip=broken window
I will try to post some photos later to help its pretty straightforward though
