Does anyone know what the difference is between the Standard Suspension and the X-REAS Sport Enhancement Suspension on the 05' 4Runners.

Well... my guess would be that the x-reas sport enhancement is a more "sport tuned" suspension. While the standard suspension more comfortable and a softer setting.

search and you will find alot about explaining the benefits of XREAS. I have it and like it. Dynamically it is great for winding mountain roads or other types of transitional moves.

xreas is great, it helps on-road stabilization at higher speeds as well as turning turns (windy road, etc). it is a cross linked system (front to opposite rear). if you plan on lifting it right off the bat, you should know that only suspension spacers are available or you have to have the xreas removed and replaced with a new shock setup. No company has developed an xreas compatible system, except for spacers from Daystar, Revtek and the infamous Nitrous Enterprises (meant to read, don't buy these). Good luck!

Hmm... I'm considering purchasing an 05 4runner sport. I currently drive a 2000 4runner limited.
So far on this particular thread, everyone has said nothing but good things about X-reas. I was reading reviews on cars.com and for some reason, they said "cons "ride quality in sport model".

Do 4runner's with x-reas have a different ride quality than ones without? Also, with the x-reas how much less body roll is there in the ride with it? than without it?

Yes, it does reduce body roll, thats the whole idea of it. Many woulod say definitely worth it.

This is from the last paragraph of the article.

"The 4Runner steers easily and with a reasonably good feel, which is a cut above the truck-based SUV norm. Handling skills also rank above-average. For this type of vehicle, the ride is pleasantly soft — not quite cushy, but the suspension absorbs many bumps. The Sport Edition feels a bit tauter, and its ride quality is a tad stiffer"

I think they were looking for more of a caddy ride than a firm ride. I'd like to see their reviews of a 3rd gen with cranked up SAWs and OME HD's on the back. :cry:

XREAS does not make the ride firmer than the normal suspension. It just controls the body lean in turns, also while braking and accelarating. So in short it make the 4Runner handles better than a conventional suspension. The coil ratings are the same for XREAS and non XREAS, and the ride is the same.

The only issue is that you are limited to only XREAS shocks, so you cant swap it out if you lift. You can however remove the whole XREAS system inthe future should you desireand go wiht a conventional suspension.

Maybe if you are really determined, but honestly NO. It will require a lot of fab work for mounts as the shocks are different and you need to mount all the lines and reserviors.

I'm sure anything can be done with the right amount of determination and $$. But as bulldog said "no", to make things simple.

sorry to bring the old thread up.. but I'm wondering if I get 07 Limited with 3rd seat option (no X-REAS), can I still install X-REAS on my own? Is that even possible without a lot of fabrication?

My understanding is "NO", you can not add X-Reas it must be done at the factory. However, all it is a cross-link system. Therefore, can you add your own set of "cross links" - like cross sway bars? Anyone know?

how do i know if i have X-REAS system on my '05 limited 4wd? it doesn't say anything in the manual.
