'03 V8 Runner front axle clicking/ chatter
We just bought a 2003 V8 SR5 4Runner. Its all time 4WD. Often after going from reverse to drive, there is a clicking/ chattering sound that comes from the front axle. It persists unless I stop the truck and start again. It sounds like auto hubs engaging or like the sound cards make against bicycle spokes when taped to a bike (you remember that sound?).. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?
Thanks!

Are you on an incline or decline when this happens? It may be the traction control, do you see an orange (i think)or maybe green light go on near the fuel gauge in the instrument panel? If so, then that is what it is

When you reverse the truck and then put it into drive there is a mechanical chattering sound which is a normal function-noise of the transmission/drivetrain. I have noticed this on numerous '03 Runners including my own. It's best described as a mechanical creaking noise just after you shift from Reverse into Drive. Not sure what function the noise is a result of, but it's normal
Yet since you mentioned that it continues making the noise as you drive forward or, as you said, until you stop and start again- that is not mormal. If this is the case get it into the dealer ASAP.
