Sorry for the long post, but here goes...

I recently purchased an '01 Taco V6 5sp w/ 70k mi. (1st time 'Yota owner) I performed what is commonly refered to as the 'deck plate' mod on the stock air box, adding a K&N filter also. Driving around the city it was great, no probs. I went up to the mountains for the weekend and on the trip up (all highway) the CEL/MIL came on. While on the road, climbing at highspeeds, if I get into the throttle heavy the engine suddenly 'chokes' and I loose a bit of power. My first thought was injector or ignition probs. Any thoughts here? Could it be the MAF sensor / fuel regulator?

OBDII scanner returned MAF circuit malfuntion, system lean, and another MAF sensor malfunction codes. The manager suggested it could have been excess oil on the K&N that garbbled the sensors up. Is there any truth in this? Any other suggestions?

.....if not please post the code number.

Yes, K&Ns are known to foul MAFs on these engines.
Try cleaning it with some contact cleaner (search "cleaning MAF" for how to's galore).
