Her name is patty mayonnaise. 1986 2wd 22r manual 242000 miles. I Was able to get a friend loan from a mechanic buddy and we replaced the head gasket, timing chain, oil/water pumps and gaskets. Its a great truck and i almost immediately became obsessed with toyota pickups. Im still learning as a mechanic, despite working in cars as a kid, and this is the perfect platform for me.





to do list:
~alternator brushes
~cut cat and new muffler (has hole rusted through)
~bumper with ball hitch
~distributor and ignition
~paint (thinking black and green trim) bondo dents
~possibly a flatbed, although i like the long bed
~new stereo/amp/speakers
~interior lighting
~get laid in it

Its leaking oil from what looks like the head gasket, so that sucks. If i have to do it again i may try the 20r head block switch, i met a guy who had done it and his truck had a lot more pick up and go, also sounded like a ricer lol. ill no more when my friend gets back in town, but for now the alternator is the first thing. also i broked the steering puck the first night i got it, offroading. replaced it and welded some rings around the metal part that had sheared. no power-steering stock so its pretty simple to work with, i held it together with a chain wrapped around the puck and it got me out of the desert and home.

thanks for check out my truck, ill post update pictures and stuff, and try to be active on the forum. im a hacker by profession (well dishwasher, but thats just a gig) so im usually on the computer a lot as is. learning mechanical engineering is a fun jump after all those ee courses.

Looking good. I agree these trucks are a great learning truck. I never did any major work on my trucks until I got my Toyota. Since then I have done head gasket replacement and a solid axle swap. Learning tons. Parts are cheap and there is tons of info online for 22r/e.

Looks like you got a great truck to work on. Several things you can do with the two wheel drive. I had an 87 flat bed with the four speed and put in a Celica 5 speed transmission. Some of Fords 5 bolt rims fit on your truck. Flat beds are handy to have. Welcome to Yotatech.
