Jtgumy 88 4Runner slow build and picture thread

Figured I make a thread to share my progress of my 88 4Runner, probably more pictures then anything. Been a Toyota fan since I could drive. Have an 2015 Trail 4Runner and been looking for an old one for a while and came across this one, an 1988 with 340,xxx miles V6 and love it!

Truck didn't come with a spare and didn't want to buy factory parts to put it back under the truck, so came up with this. Working great.

Ever since getting the truck i wanted to make the front end look more original. I never understood why someone would cut the grille and put lights where they did. So recently i ordered grille, corner lights, and headlight housing from carports.com. Installed everything, and loving the way it looks now. Heres some pictures with new front end, and other recent pictures just to show.

Now just some pictures from my trip to Mississippi in it. It was the first some what long trip i took it on (around 4 hours one way) and loved every second of it.

Nice looking truck you have there. Did you remove any of the suspension/axle components before paint? I need to do that too.

Where are you in Louisiana? I'm from Mississippi originally (born on Keesler AFB) and spent time in Baton Rouge and Kenner. My folks still have a house in Kenner.

The top part is used for like fencing and gates.. like this https://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplie...;pg105957.html . Been having it on there for about a year now and working fine. plus better then welding on roll bar.

Then just welded some aluminum piping and flat plate.

Nice truck. Nice comparison of old and new with its younger "brother"

Great start here. 4runners, welders and guns. You're in good company.
