But of an update. Found a 93 3.0 to swap in since my head gaskets are toast. This one was rebuilt 2000km ago. I wish I had time to do the 3.4 swap but way too many other things to fix first. Maybe I can find some time in the next few weeks to put it in.

While I was installing my Sway-a-way torsion bars I noticed the lower ball joints were toast. This truck I going to be darn new new at this rate.

Rebuilding a set of locking hubs.
And have some wheel hubs from a parts truck to rebuild with new brakes and bearings and studs.

Started on the paint, cab done, box needs to be sprayed to match. At least it is all one colour now, a few shades of, but one colour.

Looking really great, how were your wheel bearings? Did you need to replace them or just repack em?

Nope, they came out really clean in the solvent tank. No marks, no discoloration.

Hubs are all cleaned, painted and rebuilt. Wheel Hub is sandblasted, bearing cleaned and prepped. New Rotors waiting to go on, waiting for wheel seals and pads to show up in mail.

It sure is nice having a parts truck! makes life easy when you have parts to build on the bench, then swap over when ready. Saves on the downtime!

Also put some Redline MT-90 GL-4 in the Transmission and T-case. Need some Redline GL5 for the diffs. Can feel the difference shifting that is for sure.

Thought I would share a few of my old builds:
First build about 18 years ago, 1984 Shortbox 22R.
Rolled that one! Put a Xtracab on the reg cab frame... then rolled that....

Used some parts of the yellow one to build this 84 Long box. Converted the factory AC to on-board air. 5.29's, lockrite rear, 4"Pro-Comp rear Jeep YJ springs up front, 63" Chevys in the back. Etc...etc... Never rolled this one!

Built this one in 2006, Was supposed to only be 4" lift but after teh tire shop gave me 35's by accident instead of 33's I added BJ and Coils spacers to fit them. Loved the ARB bumper!
Bought this 2002 new, sold in 04.
My fave of all was my 2000 Tacoma. Fabtech/Fox coilovers up front, OME rear for about 3" lift, cat back sounded nice, TRD SC, 32's. Was a fun truck. Should have kept this one!

Front brakes, check!

Finally got a day to get the front end together.
Old hubs off rebuilt on.
Clean, blasted wheel hubs, painted, repacked bearings (were in good shape), new wheel seals and dust seals, new brakes, rebuilt locking hubs.

Future Upgrade!

Traded the 3VZE I bought for a 5VZ-FE. Guy wanted to sell his trucks and needed a good engine, didn't want the hassle of swapping in the 3.4 so I was happy to trade. Out of a 99 4Runner. 90% of parts are here, just need to source a few more. I will spend some time cleaning the engine up, while collecting parts and building the wiring harness.

3.4 History

I was able to track down the auto wrecker the 3.4 came from, and able to confirm it was from a 99 4Runner manual. They had the sales invoice that showed kms and VIN number as well as the dates wrecked and date the engine was pulled. Also I was able to confirm the engine, harness, MAF, starter, battery harness, Intake and ECM were all from the same vehicle. Using the VIN I was able to get the service records from Toyota. I was happy to hear that the 4Runner was regularly maintained at Toyota, and 12,000kms before the 4Runner was written off, Toyota replaced the timing belt, water pump, spark plugs and did a coolant flush and replacement. 3 less preventative maintenance items I was planning on doing while the engine is on the stand, as long as they pass the visual inspection that is.

Thanks! Found a nice surprise at the door after work today!
Thanks Rockauto!
It's like Christmas all over!

Hopefully I can get some time this weekend.

Upper ball joints, tie rod ends and adjusters, rear e-brake cable, and rear brakes!

3.4 swap update

Got a blown up 3.0 for free, This way I can prep the 3.4 and have it drop in ready. 3.0 pan, pickup tube, motor mounts, dipstick.
I am using the 3.0 to make a template of the dipstick hole.
My 99 3.4 has no dipstick hole, drill time!
Template complete!
Conversion harness is done as well.

Fits the 3.4. Just need to strip off the manifold, pull the pan and drill!
