1992 4runner build up

I guess its time to start my build up thread for my silver 1992 4runner V6 SR5 5speed manual 4.30 open diffs. I purchased it approximately 3 months ago for a grand with a blown head gasket and 275xxx miles on it. The interior and exterior was very clean for the miles and all the electronics seem to work including the sunroof and rear window. Over the last 3 months I have only had a chance to work on it a few days. I finally pulled the engine today. As previously stated the interior and exterior were clean but there were signs of previous band aid maintenance repairs, poor reseal of oil pan, loose driveshaft bolts, and the odd standard size bolt here and there but overall pretty good. No rust as of yet.

I pulled the engine to do a partial disassembly to see if a head gasket job was worth the time depending how the bottom end looks or it may just be time for the 3.4 swap. Hopefully I'll get it apart tomorrow to find out.

I have managed to make a small amount of headway on the project. I got the car sitting beside the 4runner out of the way and out of the yard. Moved the 4runner over so I'm not working on the grass while working on the passenger side. Ordered a few parts from 4crawler, 2 inch body lift, rad drop bracket, shifter extension, bumper relocation bracket, and new poly bushings (why not after 22 years). I also ordered the 1.5 ball joint spacer and I purchased a few months ago some used 2 inch coil spacers for the rear. I went ahead and pulled the front grill/bumper today for 1 less thing to do when the new parts come in. I have also located a 99 4runner with 3.4 and manual 5 speed 4x4 sr5. I'll know on the 3rd if the deal goes through. Until then I'm stuck with clean up and prep work.

Anything that anyone can think of to continue making progress/prepping for the swap that I'm missing.

Also I know that the question has been beat to death but I have yet to find a clear cut answer. Can I fit 35s with the 1.5 ball joint and 2 inch body lift. I have read several places that 33x10.50x15 fit stock and so forth but no clear answer about 35s without cutting the fenders. I don't mind flatting the pinch weld but would rather not kill the body just yet. Yes I know backspacing is also an issue. Going to have to look up what the rims it has on it are.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Still would love an answer yes or no about the 35s from the previous post..... Anyone at all...

Picked up my donor 1997 4runner today for the 3.4 swap. It had been wrecked and many body panels/items had been parted out already including the tranny. But the all mighty important 3.4 had been left alone. Hope to have it out within a week but who knows.

35's should fit. Good luck on the swap, it will be awesome when you're done.

I really would like to run 35s to begin with so when I sas I don't have to by tires again but Iit looks very tight definitely no room to stuff them.

You drove that on the street with only two lug nuts holding the tire on?

Got a little work done today. Pulled the 3.4 motor, computer, and engine harness. Still have to pull the body harness from the donor and a few other small things. But progress is progress.

Doesn't look like much of a ramp but it is when your pushing an engine hoist with motor by yourself.Name: 20141115_153908_zps368d3424.jpg

Nice work on the progress!

I ran 35 with no lift and trimmed bump stops on my trail truck for a while, minimal rubbing on the frame and PS box on full lock. Also rubbed a bit on the inner fender under the battery box and air intake and firewall. Trimmed the finders 2" and the pinch weld, then beat every thing that rubbed with a sledge hammer, after that it barley rubbed. Running a narrower tire or rim with less back spacing will help on the fire wall side of things, but hurts on the frame/ ps box side of things. Its gonna rub somewhere... and thats probably just fine.

Thanks rattle that's what I was looking for. I'm guessing I'll clear them with minor rubbing until I can afford the sas. I'm sure the half shafts will be stressed but I'll take it easy in them. Need to find a m/t 96/97 ecu for the swap then onto the tires. Got my body lift and ball joint spacers from 4crawler in today. Hope to get the body lift in this weekend. Plan on waiting on the coil spacers and ball joint spacers until the swap is running.
