1991 pickup 5.3 swap...they said it wouldn't fit

First off, would like to say this was about the worst case of mission creep I've ever had. It started as a simple brake job..then I found my exhaust leak. I was like..OK...I'll get a full LCE exhaust to fix that. Well I wasn't too keen on putting that much money into a 3.0.

so it began

my goal was to retain the IFS, keep the truck as close to stock height as possible and use all off the shelf parts to make this possible...I didn't want to have to make anything

it's been in the works for a couple years

today..i got to hear it for the first time

pics to come soon...i'm on my phone at the moment

If we're talking about the newer Chevrolet 5.3, I may steal ALL of your details with this one..

Bring it on already!

It's a 5.3 out of a 2005 silverado. It's the HO version meaning aluminum block, different heads, different cam and higher compression. Which i really liked as it wouldn't make the truck much more heavy in the front.

A word of caution...this wasn't a cheap swap. There were definitely cheaper routes that could have been taken.

I plan to blast and paint the manifolds. I would have gone with the ceramic coated version but prior experience has kind of turned me against the stuff.

This thing rocks. Nice work on the swap! Looking forward to seeing the nitty gritty of it.

The motor looks pretty sunken down in the engine bay. Was the body lift required?

What did you do with the computer? Stand alone? Rig up something with the stock Toyota one?

With the mounts I used, the engine and trans was raised 1.5 inches so I added a 1.5 inch body lift. I'm planning to get a budbuilt crossmember to replace the factory one and take advantage of the drivetrain lift. What was really odd to me is that due to this...the radiator fits perfectly flush top and bottom...without the body lift it would have hung down below the front most crossmember.

I am using an earlier model "LS1" style computer to allow for the cable throttle instead of drive by wire like the engine originally had...the stock toyota computer is still in place but a LOT of wires have been removed. The engine harness was built as a stand alone. I also had the computer reflashed for this particular engine.
