Well, i've pretty much got the 22r that i built for this pickup sold. I'm hoping to head out friday night or saturday morning early to pick up a 2004 passat tdi 2.0 (134 HP/247 ft/lbs) to swap into the little yota. i love the old 22r's but i really want more power and better fuel economy. Sorry I haven't kept this more up to date! I'll try to keep more up to date.

I had not seen your build until tonight. Do you know you can get a dash overlay on eBay? It's $70 and they will paint it whatever color you want for another $25. You can paint it yourself with a $6 can of vinyl paint. This might be cheaper than paying your upholstery guy.

I actually found a pretty good used one that will work well enough to throw a dash mat over for $100. mine was actually lifted up about 2" in the middle of the right side pad. i did consider those though.

I've officially sold my 22r and i am heading to Colorado to pick up a 2004 Passat TDI to swap into my little toy. Checking my gear ratios with the oem VW specs i should be within 400 RPM's of a factory VW. I may look for a 3.73 third for my 8" to bring the rpms up and giver her a little more pep, or just flash the ecm for more power down the road. time will tell...

Well, after a long hiatus i'm back. I've had a lot of life changes and the toyota went on the back burner. I put the passat with the tdi back together and sold it for a healthy profit and used the money as a down payment to buy a house, which left me without a motor at all. I found a craiglist motor and tranny out of a 2wd pickup and got it for $200 for the lot but it was in rough shape. The block has been cleaned up, decked it, and bored it .040 over. Next week i should have my new keith black pistons to bump the compression. I'll be using the offy intake i had but with a weber 38 on top of that this time. i'll also be using my old hedman header and magnaflow exhaust. for the top end i'm going to use the engnbldr street/rv head and a 270 cam. I also plan on using a one wire alternator and the davis DUI hei distributor. i really want my engine bay nice and clean this time. I'll probably route most of my wiring inside the fenders and paint my engine bay semi black to make it nice and clean. I'm also looking into re gearing my diff to 3.73. Sorry i didn't update this, but i'm getting back to this project and will keep this going better this time!

Does anyone happen to know off the top of your head what FI fuel tank will fit into my SC/SB chassis? id like to do away with the oem mechanical pump and put a lower PSI electric pump in the tank. I'm going to need to run a fuel pressure regulator for the weber any how, i figure running an electrical with a tach triggered controller will be an easy way to clean up the engine compartment. Thanks in advance for the help, much appreciated.

I believe i can buy a new tank, fuel pump hanger assembly, and sending unit for a FI RN55 body code. I would think that sending units would be the same, as far as working with my current fuel gauge in the dash, between FI and carb model or does anyone know if i'm mistaken in my though process?

I believe a little research through Spectra Premium's website answered my question. the difference between a fi tank and a carb tank is just the hole size on top. it looks as if the FI tank is readily available for purchase and uses the same sending unit as the carb tank. fuel pump hangers are also available new on ebay. If anyone is looking for this information i found it here: http://www.spectrapremium.com/home.html. hope this helps someone at some point.
