Hmm I'm still a little unsure on this. I'll have to take a look tonight I suppose.

Here is a video of my idle surge I am currently experiencing. Going to start by making sure the TPS is in range, and then burp the coolant, and go from there. Would love to hear from anybody who has had it before and knows where else to look.

Angry

Δ huh, whats up with the angry face, must of done that by acident, lol

Are 4runners could be twins, mine has the same exterior and interior colors, except its an 86'

How do you like the Bighorn tires? I ran some 33s for over a year before trading a couple weeks ago for some 35s. I had about 7000 miles on them with no signs of wear, I'd buy another set, just 35s next time. Look forward to seeing more of your build!

So question to anybody with Thorley headers. The gaskets they come with seem to be cheap. Would I be better off ordering a separate Fel-Pro stock gasket? Is the Fel-Pro compatible?

Yes all the stock gaskets are compatible. I used the gaskets that came with header. But it's your choice.

Cool thanks.

Just ordered a replacement all leather shifter boot. 35$ shipped, could have been cheaper but not terrible.

Also pulled the trigger on the Thorley header and a new Magnaflow CAT yesterday.

The idle surge is odd. I would definitely try to check the TPS. 4Crawler has a great writeup on it.
Here it is.

Your runner is really in great shape. Even more so after seeing the interior pics. Looks great.

Cant really help on the Thorley header. I have a full length header but not certain what make it is, as it was on the truck when I purchased it.

Thanks man I appreciate it! I'm actually familiar with adjusting/replacing a TPS. Had a different idle problem with my last rig (1988 Ex Cab) that I fixed via replacing my TPS. Biggest issue is getting to the damn screws. Pretty much only way to do it is to take the TB off. Which means draining the coolant which is a pain in the ass to do all that just to move a sensor slightly.

When I pulled my TB for my TPS, I just stuck a few shop towels and a plastic bag under the coolant lines, left the rad cap on, and pulled the TB.

I only lost a little coolant and was able to catch it all.

Worth a shot, its 100% easier adjusting/testing a TPS with the TB off.

Might just end up trying that this time. Thanks for the advice bud.

Just an update on the current situation. I pulled the trigger on the Thorley headers and got a magnaflow CAT at the same time. Should be here any day. Added some HP yesterday as well. I'll update with some pictures later today.

Great choice of header man. You will like it. Watch your tach the first time you drive it after install. You will see the power band that the TriY gives ya

What would a project truck be without a huge todo list and a even longer want list haha. Looks like a great start for sure. Keep grinding.

Well I got my headers and installed them today

They fit great except for one issue....

The angle is different and therefore my new CAT will not bolt up to my current muffler. So I guess that's my excuse to get a brand new 40 series Flowmaster with a custom piping setup!

Also added some HP like I said and here are the promised pics

So bad news is that every muffler shop is booked until Friday. Anybody know if I will do any damage by running open headers until then? I only live 5 miles from work so I'm just doing short trips between now and Friday.
