Locking hubs? So I can unlock them and not have my whole front end spinning...which is especially good cause I'll have a square tube front shaft and it has a lock rite in it lol, and rear brakes I'm just going with an IFS rear end which has slightly larger drums for now...if I have any issues I'll look into disks

Well I got my rear end out and one leaf mocked in place lol, I went with 97+ ford 2wd springs that are 58" long, moved the front hanger forward 7" and rear forward 3" (double shackles), looks pretty centered to me...I had to leave for work so she's on hold lol, only thing I'm worried about at this point is getting the right height but we'll see onto the pics!

Rear end out

And how it sits lolll,Name: 20150611_171418_zpsks0cfvl6.jpg

I got the rear end apart and my third off to get my 5.29s installed this one will have a Lincoln posi traction unit 😉

Also got the ifs axle wire brushed and painted only thing left to do is make my own hard lines (ick) and also replace a bearing and all new brake hardware, also ick lol

But I did get to test out some fancy new tire machines down at Georges Off road....he was the only guy willing to do my 38.5s...he's also the one doing my gears lolName: 20150610_141539_zpszh9tkjvl.jpg

That's all till I get home 6/25 then it's onnnnnnn

yo... can you explain the front disc brake mod.... you put what gen Taco rotors on with the V6 calipers right? So what do you have to grind on the hubs to get it to work?

All right check it, you grab 93 V6 calipers, 01 taco rotors, 93 nissan 300zx brake lines (they're longer) you do an IFS hub swap (tons of threads on it just ignore the brake part) either buy a backing plate eliminator kit or cut your old one up (I've got the eleminator kit) what I did was install the ifs hubs ready to go minus brakes I put the front end on jack stands blocked the rear tires and disconnected the rear drive shaft (from the transmission end) started the truck and put it into 4 low 1st and made a makeshift lathe you have to grind down the outside of the wheel mating surface so the taco you or will slide over

Notice the wheel surface here? Name: 20150510_135943_zpssi21tjlw.jpg

Also I used 1/2" by 1"1/2 grade 5 bolts and drilled and tapped the calipers (you can use a locking nut instead) and a grade 8 washer to space the caliper a hair further out...you're also moving the calipers to the outside of the mounting ears

Niceeee, I've actually seen some people running tundra rotors/calipers and a gm master cylinder...but honestly my ˟˟˟˟ stops pretty damn good, if I need more braking power I'll get rear disks lol

So I finally got my rear 3rd done, I went with sky's off road 4cyl gear kit which the bearings come from Yukon gear, and gears are from usa gear...apparently they had a couple of goofs send out my shipment because both gear sets came with the wrong carrier bearings, and then after I dropped off my rear third I find out they shipped a 29 spline pinion?? Lol but they made it all right, next day shipped new Carrier bearings and a new 29 spline drive flange whoop...all I did was email them and they were on it, super happy with the customer service

Very nice! Glad you put up all the pictures of the progress along the way. I have a hard time getting good pictures when I am doing stuff like this. I always get impatient and do not want to stop for photos.

Great work. Looks mean with the 38.5's!

Thanks guys! Super glad I was able to document My progress well, I did a pretty good job on my 86 SAS but being my second try I took more important pictures rather than just poser pics 😂, and just an FYI if you get a lockright they have alot of slop.. As in I thought my backlash backed out after I ran with the hubs locked in lol my pinion had about 1/4 turn before all the slop is taken out so I tore it down thinking something broke.... Lesson learned, but the mods to the brake system made it super easy to break down the axle and get the third out 👍

Finally got everything pretty much buttoned up and started measuring for a front driveshaft whoop, I'll be using some 2x2 and 2.5x2.5 square tube...measuring fun 😂 Name: DSC_0072_zpsf8fyhzmq.jpg
Views: 219
Size: 323.8 KB

Then the not so fun task of squaring these up....all the grinding! What I did here was square up my tube and cut a sliver of each size off and set it on the yokes then took some spray paint to mark it, on the cv end of the yoke you're better off cutting it close to the marks and then grinding as you have to remove alot of material Name: DSC_0074_zpsqurzfj8i.jpg
Views: 220
Size: 758.7 KB

The easier one..you can just grind this one lol Name: DSC_0073_zpsoqkzudap.jpg
Views: 218
Size: 328.5 KB

All welded up just needing to be cut downName: DSC_0076_zps5pgs5jsa.jpg
Views: 217
Size: 824.5 KB

And all cut down and getting painted...I could have gotten a little more slip out of it but I had a brain fart and cut the larger end a bit short but it'll definitely work Name: DSC_0077_zpsvyg8rjuf.jpg
Views: 227

And breaking in the gearsName: DSC_0079_zps8j7iotzd.jpg
Views: 221
Size: 184.9 KB

It vibrates pretty good above 40mph but that's to be expected, I'm never going to be using the truck on the asphalt in 4wd anyway, almost done with the gear heat cycles! Can't wait for the shakedown run!!! Oh and it rides way straighter and has less vibration than I thought for unbalanced 38.5s haha

Finally got my gear brake in done and took her out for a shakedown run, did great all day with no major issues.

Till I broke a birfield lol, and seeing how easy it was I'll probably be upgrading to rcvs alot sooner than I planned (like everything else on this build) but for ˟˟˟˟s and giggles here's the video 😂

Been down for a few weeks trying to track down a stock axleshaft for the time being...but I was able to redo my rear shackles mounts which was much needed...
