If I could just bolt it to my automatic I would. I need an adapter and 23 spline input to make it work. The plan is to just wait until this winter and do the tcase when I swap the motor and trans so I only have to buy one adapter. I'll probably do a 23 spline 4.7 gear set sometime this summer to prepare. Should be fun ripping apart a tcase for the first time.

Went on a couple hour drive to a friend's farm this evening. The new suspension and steering seem to be in good working order.

I try to plan for stuff like 'This winter I'm gonna...' then I get impatient or something else takes me too long...like an SAS I started in May, and finished in February.

Rig looks nice, where is your friends farm?

Hahaha I know what you mean. I still have a ton of research and a donor car to buy before I can start my engine swap. So hopefully I'll have everything by November and start it then.

My friends farm is in Keymar. Man, I could ditch Baltimore and move out there in a second! It's so nice out that way.

In other news, I got the rear u-bolt flip done tonight. While I had it apart, I threw in a set of one inch blocks I had laying around to help bring the rear up temporarily until the decision on rear suspension is made.

Thanks for the link to you buid and flat build thread. Truck looks great so far.

Did you ever figure out what to do with your front driveshaft? Reason I am asking is I have the square tube el cheapo super tough on the front of my Toy and its great but it cant be run very fast because of balancing issues.

No problem and thanks man. I just went to fleet pride in Frederick. They said there was nothing they could do with my driveshaft. Called A1 in Baltimore and they said they could probably add a longer slip and lengthen it for me.

Have you looked into the driveshaft kits that places like Davez and TG offer. I think it's the CVs and splines and all the driveshaft shop has to do is add the tube and balance

I have seen that. I was just hoping to get mine done locally if possible without spending an additional $270 on the kit plus whatever a shop would charge to complete it.

Got some used 35x13.50 Toyo MT's mounted up today. Definitely need to get my wider rear axle swapped in and get some front spacers ASAP!

Ha! Definitely looks like tire-ville doesn't it. The 32x11.50 bfg ATS came on the truck when I bought it. The 33x10.50 KM2's were off of my Tacoma. And then I have 265/75 duratracs on my stock Tacoma wheels. So I guess that's 4 sets of tires and three sets of wheels between the two trucks.

The IFS width rear axle I got from an '86 truck is 1.5" wider on each side so 3" total.

You dont want to do spacers in rear? you swapping gears and internals as well?

I have a axle sitting in my 95 runner id like to put in my 85 but i already have gearing and locker in current axle. Cant really justify cost of buying all new junk for new axle. When i can just put in some spacers.

Most guys get a rearend out of an ifs truck and swap them in. They are 3" wider and bolt rite in. 3rd members swap rite over assuming the axle is out of a 4 cyl truck. Then they will run wheels spacers up front or swap the ifs hubs over to their sfa. It's a fairly inexpensive way to gain a wider stance and more stability.

^What this guy said. The 3rd member swap over to another axle is super easy if it is compatible. Also spare axle shafts are much easier to find for the 86+ rear axles.

I believe ur correct unless ur axle has the same gear ratio then it should be fine. I'm thinking the newer runners had coil springs instead of leaves so that presents another setback. U would have to purchase spring perches and weld them on. Also for some reason I want to say that 4 cyl 3rd members will fit in 6 cyl housings but not the other way around. Don't quote me on that tho. There's a ton of tech on this site about that if u look. Sorry for getting offtrack on ur build thread failrated.

^^^ NO, you can use any IFS rear axle housing, keep your stronger v6 3rd.

The 4cyl 3rd, and v6 3rd can swap into any rear housing with the 8" center. the v6 3rd is stronger then the 4cyl 3rd. Just need to make sure front and rear gears match of course. Infact, the front SFA trucks used the same 4cyl 3rd found in the rear of the trucks. The problem there is the front diff uses the coast side of the ring gear for foward drive, bad/weak. This is why it is desirable to get an FJ80 3rd for the front. Its 8", reverse cut gears, hi-pinion and directly bolts in. If you ran that 3rd on the rear(which would be nice to have a hipinion rear) you'd run into the same problem with the old 4cyl SFA diffs...riding/power on the coast side of the gear...not good. I'm actually surprised someone hasn't figured our how to put v6 gears in an FJ80 front so you could have a high pinion rear.

I'm just regurgitating old information.

Thanks for clearing that up.
