Thanks guys.

Fabric for my interior finally arrived. Went with Cordura fabric for the durability and the water resistance.

Going 2 tone on the seats, light tan/sand and coyote brown inserts. Still trying to decide if I am going to pull the dash and paint it.

Not much progress just slowly painting and reassembling exterior items. Mirrors, grill, rock guards, windshield wipers all cleaned painted and installed. Hope to get my front fender liners in tomorrow and start adding some sound deadening in the rear body panels.

I did get the rotten A/C condenser pulled out. I am planning on replacing the entire system once I get the engine and drive train fixed. Temporarily taped up the AC lines that are still in the truck.

Added all my rear gate internals back.

Also finally registered with DMV and got my tag.

4runner is looking good man! Im with you on the AC, had to rip out all the stuff that wasn't working, I'm looking forward to seeing you tackle replacing yours first so i know where to start!! haha

Nice looking 4runner. When I put bedliner on the interior of my truck I took out the sound deadening stuff. The easiest way for me was to use an air chisel which only took about 30 minutes. I don't know how much louder it is since I haven't gotten a chance to drive it yet but hopefully all is well.

The air chisel deal may be my best bet. I have been trying to use a regular hammer and a chisel on the drivers side. Going a little too slow for me.

Heat gun from underneath and above helps it a bunch

Does it peel up after heating the floor pan? I would think it makes it tougher to deal with making it sticky.

Everything I have seen says get it cold and chip it up in pieces.

I was tired of the horrible knocking this thing made whenever I tried to move it. With no hope of it getting better I decided it was now or never to pull the motor. Plans are for a full rebuild with EB internals, stock replacement head, and 261C cam.

The Tear Down Begins!

I have plenty of degreasing and parts washing to do. It's caked on there extremely thick.

Here is where I noticed the boo boo someone tried to put a band-aid on.



See it?? Yea someone forgot the bolt under the distributor and busted the timing cover. Then proceeded to put it back together with RTV.





Good news is the timing chain and guides were new. These will be replaced with the EB steel backed kit during the rebuild anyways. But its good to know this maintenance wasn't neglected.

The block stayed in this state for a few days until I could source some M12x1.25 80mm bolts to mount it to my borrowed engine stand.

Put together a parts list. Let me know if I missed something.

-EB Master Kit w/ oil pump
-EB Stock replacement head
-EB 261 Crawler cam
-EB Head bolt set
-EB Timing cover
-EGR block off plates (eBay)
-Aisin water pump (Rock Auto)
-Distributor cap (Rock Auto)
-Rotor button (Rock Auto)
-Plug wires (Rock Auto)
-Thermostat (Rock Auto)
-Radiator/coolant hoses (Rock Auto)
-NGK Plugs - Already had
-Fuel Filter - Already had
-PCV Valve grommet - Napa
-Need to source an AC compressor bracket.

My clutch has been replaced and is in very good condition. I am still debating replacing it while I am in there.

I had recently replaced my belts, I plan on reusing them.

Ended up going with an ebay 120 amp direct fit alternator.

A little of the grungy aftermath.

Performance robbing throttle body...



Plugged EGR Ports...
This was after sticking a screwdriver through the gunk. All ports even on the plate on the rear of the head looked like this.



And last but not least the empty engine bay.

Tore down the lower end. Diagnosis was correct, rod bearings. Number 1 and 4 were scoring and had wore down a bit.



Cylinder 1-4 rod bearings in order.









Pistons



Mains looked decent and small groves on the rod journals.



Took the block and all lower components to the machine shop to get checked out.
Cylinder 4 had some scoring and needs boring.
Crank needs grinding and polishing.
Plan on dropping off the EB timing cover and decking the block in order to insure straightness.

Dropped off my pistons and bearings so the machine shop can finish up my block. I hope to have it back in the next week!

Lots to update just need to find some time to upload some pics!

Picked up the block from the machine shop recently. Its all painted up and ready for assembly.

Also ordered some new wheels and tires. This is going to make me have to pull the hubs down and repack the bearings to get ready for an alignment. Will give me a good chance to replace the rotors as well as paint up the hub assembly.
