I got the rock guard on the driver side completed. I was at the part store today getting some clips so I could finish the drivers side guard and a guy really liked my truck. At first after seeing the interior is still not in the best of shape, I think he thought I was trashing this truck as I have had others I think that felt the same way. I told him this truck was trashed when I got it and I have only improved it. It is in far better shape then when I first got it.

You can see I am missing a cover for the passenger mirror and I think I will be getting one of those here shortly and other then stripes, rear bumper caps and the mirror cover that should have the exterior nearly done.

I am slowly gearing up to finish the interior. Not having carpet and the rear panel in is what makes the interior look so bad. Once I get the carpet ordered, the interior should come together quickly as I have nearly everything to complete it. I want to come up with a center console for it as I do like having an arm rest and will start searching for something that is useful and fits like it belongs there.

Terry my bed has those plastic covers on the front of the fenderwells and I personally do not care to have them. If you want them I'd ship em your way!

Your truck is looking great Terry! I like them with the rock guards on, like you said it breaks it up and adds some color. I look forward to seeing your interior come together. I'm still trying to decide on mine, if I want to do a complete color change, I think it will depend on what replacement seats I end up getting, then I will color match the interior to match the new seats. I think that would be easier than trying to match my existing red interior.

Congrats on hitting 10,000 posts!!!

Hello bootscootboogie... I appreciate it, if they are in great condition I could use them. The ones I have are descent but will eventually get replaced with some better ones.

Hello Ed... Doing a color change is not to hard to do or costly with the exception of the seats in a runner, one reason I havent gotten the 88 seats done yet as it is expensive from what I found. I actually like the red. A few years ago I was talking to Redeth and he was asking about interior paint as he could not find it. I got to asking my local shop and he was saying on the west coast they are not allowed to mix it up like we can have it here.

Mistys runner still looks great on the interior since I have done it and have not touched it up even one time. I still feel like I driving a new runner when I look at it. If I had some great seats, I dont think there is much more I can do to it to bring the appearance of the interior up. Seats are expensive to have redone.

Thanks anndel... I am liking how it is turning out. Once you see it done, it doesnt really look like a whole lot is involved and easily forgotten and just looks like a truck found in a garage somewhere but it has been a workout getting it to where it is. I am starting to get compliments on it when in town or getting fuel and some really enjoy looking at it. The work is starting to pay off.

I some how got a little door ding and some chipped paint from debris being kicked up on the road and before I stripe the truck I will need to take care of. Also I am kind of disappointed in the fuel mileage of this truck as it is getting about 17 miles to the gallon. I really glad to have a truck again and 4x4 is something I do tend to need once in a while but me driving it to work every day the mileage is really starting to climb on it and really dont want to just drive it back into the ground. I think I have already gotten 3700 miles on it since getting it on the road.

I really want to keep this truck in great condition so I was on the look out for a car that gets better mileage and something that I dont really mind putting the miles on getting road rash on. I also did not want to go into payments for the next several years just for a work car. I am gearing up to be retired in the next 10 years and would like to keep my promise to Misty that she is going to be married to a bum when I retire. I dont have any plans of working until I am in the ground.

I know I cant stop working as that is just putting a foot in the grave but I want to be able to work out in the shop or doing something part time and get out of the 9-5 rat race. No plans of just holding a recliner down from floating away but looking forward to not having to worry about a time clock somewhere.

After researching numerous cars and I was open to Toyota, Nissan, and Honda I bought an 2000 Nissan Maxima for a work car. It is really in great shape and the interior is in amazing shape. The previous owner really took care of it. It should double the mileage I am getting from the truck keep the wear and tear off of it. Being a used car there are bound to be a few things that will come up but so far everything seems to be okay.

I looked at several other cars and thought I wanted to be in the 40 mile per gallon cars as I know gas is not going to stay cheap forever and eventually it will go back up and probably a lot more then what we have paid for in the past. After testing a few of them I decided that I did not want to be riding around with my knees on my chest so went to a little larger car. I will try to get some pictures up a little later today.

Interior is in excellent shape.

This is sitting at the Toyota dealer in North West Arkansas Toyota dealer in Rogers Arkansas. It looked like it had a dealers tag on the windshield and is in excellent condition.

Hello Brandon...It is a nice truck. Would be scared to see what the price is on it. Those trucks are not cheap even for a rust bucket one. You still moving out this way??

Had to help Misty with some materials for one of her projects and was in the 85 when I seen a red 85 extra cab SR5, fuel injection for sale. I have seen the truck in my area before. The guy wants $5000 for it but will take less. I did not have my phone on me to get any pictures of it. I have a picture somewhere in one of my threads and will see if I can find it or will get some pictures of it later if anybody is interested. It is a nice truck. Has a few dings in the rear of the bed but would be an easy fix. It has been repainted in the past. May sound a little high but from the overall condition of it and getting one into descent shape it would cost more then that.

I would not make any money off of it as I don't know the guy but no one of the mechanics that has worked on it in the past and he does good work. He said he would take less then the mentioned price. Looks solid and does not appear to have been beaten on. If any body is interested it is in Southwest Missouri. It would be hard to find a truck like it.

Here is a picture of it that I took a while back of it.

Hello Cyberhorn...It is a nice truck and appears to have been taken care of. A quick look at it and I can tell it had be repainted but overall is a solid SR5 fuel injected truck. Will be a long time before I find another one like that one.

I checked out a new salvage yard and they had ONE Toyota and it is a 89 4runner. Not much left of it and I only had a few tools to get some of the parts off of it that I wanted. I eventually want to get the rock guards, rear mud flaps off of it and the broken antenna. The antenna I can fix on it but the front fender is crushed in on it and I did not have tools to pull the antenna out at the time.

Been tied up on several things from work to visiting a family member in the hospital that getting out in the shop just hasn't been happening. Been getting some things for the shop and found a horn button in the boneyard I have been wanting to get to replace my hockey puck horn button. It is missing the Toyota emblem but will for until I can find an emblem or another horn button. Got the antenna nut which can be hard to find and a fuse cover.

Terry your truck is looking great! I would have to say you are in the fun part now, every piece you put on is one of those final pieces to the puzzle that makes its twice as nice. I need to start getting out to the part yards around here and see if I can find some interior parts I have been wanting to replace.

Keep it up!

Thanks mbomberz1....It is nice to just be doing the easy stuff and the things that make it look better now. I am down to just carpet and some interior paint and the inside would look completely done. When I get around to it, it will go fast, just got to get the time to get to it.

Thank God I did something right. Wifey told me Justin had made some great grades on some test a while back and I asked him about it. He told me they were some of the highest in the state. (Huh? He did not get that from me.) So I gave him a hug and told him great job and was proud of him. He just said "Ok Dork". He isn't into the mushy stuff, lol

He has been wanting to learn to drive for a while I took him to some power line trails and let him learn back there. The first few starts and trying to get the hang of the clutch, gas and brake thing was a little rough at first but he finally was able to get the hang of it. I was teasing him about now I will need to replace the clutch.

Surviving Justin's first driving lesson. Truck is still in one piece so it turned out pretty good. Picture isn't showing him behind the wheel to well. He is grinning from ear to ear.Name: IMG_20160421_122711_zpswn9lktk4.jpg

That's cool Terry. Building some great memories that Justin will always remember! I still remember learning to drive my dad's 62 Chevy 3/4 ton that was a 3 on the tree lol. The linkage was kind of worn, and if you didn't shift just right it would get stuck between gears lol...good times!

Interior

Rock solid and clean underneath.

Hey Hey! This is my truck!! The tow truck driver mentioned he had somebody taken pictures of it. I'm always going through build threads and I can't believe i found this!!
(Sorry the pictures are so small, you can click on them and see them full size)

Here is how I got it:
85 Extra Cab Saved from Crusher-85-toyota-6-.jpg

Here is a picture of it now:
85 Extra Cab Saved from Crusher-img_3826.jpg

And don't worry, I store this baby in the winter time. There is not spot of rust on the frame, and I plan on keeping it that way.

Since i picked it up I have:
interior:
-installed a lot of items that were missing: dash pad, rear view mirror, visors, door window crank, door arm rest
-painted all the faded plastics
-rhino lined the floor and back wall and then installed vinyl flooring
-reupholstered the interior door panels (including new backing)
-installed a new head unit, 2 4" speakers up front and 2 6x9 speakers in the extra cab
-made a rear cargo bench

exterior:
-removed the blacked out turn signals and tail lights
-removed the front bull bar and rear bumper

suspension:
-Old Man Emu light duty springs and shocks all the way around
- 31x10.5x15 Duratracs on Cragar D window wheels

engine:
-just basic maintenance
-cleaned the upper and lower intakes
-replaced fuel injectors
-cleaned the engine bay

I am probably forgetting some things, but it has been a great project thus far!

Thanks Jason...It was some fun.

Thanks Cyberhorn... I still have not figured out where he got the brains from, must of been mom as it was not me.

Hello Ed...I remember the three on the tree. I took my test in a 76 Dodge slant 6 with the 3 on the tree. If you did not get the shifting down just right, it too would lock up and you were on the side of the road with a flat blade screw driver getting the two linkages separated. Those were some great days back then with what it took to drive some of them old trucks. I just sold my 64 Chevy pickup recently. I would liked to kept it but it was a gas hog. I removed the 235 out of it and put a 350 in it. That was a mistake. I should of left it as it was. Justin had a great time learning to drive. It was fun.
