I'm fortunate that I parted out the white 85 to the point that I did, because it ate up a huge chunk of my initial investment and I still have the axles, the transmission and transfer case, I believe I have around $150 in all of that and the cab. I'm anxious to see how good the truck runs and the general condition. Who knows. May end up building it instead of my 84. I know engine parts are fading into mild obscurity for 84- engines. I think for a long term truck, the 85+ block and head are a safer bet. Terry I love that 76 Ford! It's gonna be so cool when it's done. You can't beat old fashioned American POWER.

Truck is starting to run "warm" in the evening on the way home. It will not overheat, but the temp gauge is about 25℅ higher than usual. I suspect either the head gasket or the radiator as EVERYTHING else cooling related is brand new. Parts store wanted $38 for a head gasket. Rockauto got me a felpro for $20 shipped. I'm gonna take the radiator to a local repair shop and get it hot tanked because I don't think it would cost as much as a new radiator. But if I have to buy one whatever. Not getting one with a plastic tank. Low range has an all aluminum for a decent price. Until then I'm riding with all the windows open and the heat on blast

Before you slap that hg in, you might want to shop around. Fel-pro makes some really good gaskets, but in my opinion their 22r hg should be avoided. Mine failed before the 40k mark and the head was machined flat. Block deck was measured and fell within spec. It was reassembled by my uncle who maintains a bus fleet and I'd trust his wrench skills with my life. If you're not into the slipper plate design (Toyota and Engnbldr) there are some graphite ones that some guys like a lot.

I'm going to second the motion to avoid the aftermarket headgasket. The OEM one only runs about $45 as of about 2 years ago when I replaced mine. I've done two 22RE head gasket jobs on my trucks. The OEM gaskets last. Had to replace a head gasket on a remanufactured engine after it had only 40K miles. No idea what brand they used but it was blue material and not Toyota.

I cannot have two knowledgeable people tell me something and ignore it. @#&"&$##$___++-&!!!!! I'll order an OEM one. I've had great success with everything felpro that I've used so that's the only reason I bought it.

By anything I've heard experienced mechanics say, Fel-pro has a good reputation especially on domestic engines. Something weird must've happened in the office the day they designed the little Toyota hg and then for some reason never redesigned. If you give it a quick search, you'll find too many of the same story, regardless of the prep work done or not done: they soon start leaking between the 3rd and 4th cylinders. The gasket material also appears to rapidly break down near the coolant passages. Mine did both.

Lol I'm probably gonna build this truck. I'm about to check the gears, but I really think it's got 4:88s. No way stock gears could turn 33s this easily. I have another floor mat that's brown though.

All new parts on the 84:
brake master cylinder
brake booster
calipers / pads
steel braided brake lines front and rear


While bleeding the brakes a metal supply line beside the gas tank busted and let all of my fluid out. Disconnected the lines under the passenger fender and used a short line with two male ends bent into a U to block off the rear brakes.

I'm covered in brake fluid dirt and frustration. lol
