southernZ's 1980 Pickup Build-Up Thread

I picked this little truck up for $700. It did not run and the breaks were not working. Pulled the carb off and found the float stuck. Cleaned everything and got it all back together and it fored up. Bled the breaks and now they work great. The PO had just spent $500 on a new front caliper, new hardlines and shoes/rotors/pads...the front tie-rod ends are shot. I picked up a '83 Longbed SR5 for $350. Ill be putting all the powersteering stuff off of it on the '80. Here are a few pics of when i got it, and after i cleaned it up a bit.

I like the tires, they look like tall-skinny ones of some type. Mind telling me what they are?

Great truck and good find...

Great find!
$700 is a steal for that!
The body looks like it is in great shape. How is the interior?? Did you do a compression test?

No compression test.....it runs like a top. A little puff of smoke on startup but that's no biggie.

The tires are N78-r15 buckshot mudders. Roughly a 31x9.50 I think. I don't think they make them anymore. They are awesome in the mud....

I got the power steering off the 83 and on the 80. When I took the knuckle arms off I found the bearings on both sides shot.....ordering a complete front axle service kit from either marlin or lc engineering.......fun stuff.

The interior is in great shape minus the floor boards. No cracks on the dash, original seat is in good shape, kick panels are in good shape, no cracks on any of the glass, and the door panels are both in good shape. It id all stripped out right now so I can repair the floor... ill post a pic of what it looked like before on Sunday
