My 83 'Yota Build Up

Small Update
Finally got an exhaust on my truck. Now I can actually listen to the engine and hear if it's doin anything weird.
Now that I can actually drive it I can move on to the next phase. Suspension. Been saving for a little while and I'm going to order trailgear's front kit and then I'm leaning towards f150s in the rear using sky's Chevy swap kit because that comes with all the hangers, shocks, etc....
These next pictures show how bad I need new springs tho. The setup the previous owner installed flexes terribly

It's been a long time since I've updated but that's cause I haven't done anything to the truck until just recently. I finally got to work on my suspension and put new tires on.
Trail gear 3 inch springs and some 35" bfg km2s. Truck still rides terrible as I don't have shocks in the front but that should change soon. Still need to do the rear. I'm doing some Chevy 63s with sky's drop shackle kit. Hopefully that's coming soon.

Random Pics
Still haven't done much. Baseball and school has taken up too much time and with it being my daily I can't afford to have it be down for a few days. I do have a lot of pics of all the snow wheeling I did this winter though (a lot was done with no front driveline. Too short after the lift)
All the built yotas at my high school
So that's what my trucks been up too since I updated. I recently shredded all the teeth of my pinion in the rear. I swapped in my spare but it's a different heart ratio than the front and it's open diff so I can't wheel at all right now. 5.29s and a spool are on their way tho so I'll be back in business soon

New Username/truck update
My trucks been through a lot in the past months and I haven't updated at all. Finishing school up freed up a lot of time for me to work and make money to fund this crazy hobby of four wheeling. First thing my truck needed was shocks.
Install starts with some cut fenders

Bumper
so the shock hoop install isn't the cleanest but it's a wheeler not a show car so I'm not concerned. Next was a bumper. The front of my truck was boring and needed some protection as well. Luckily my grandpa builds custom gates so his shop has all the right tools to make this job a simple task. We finished this bumper before lunch.
Start with bottom support
Make sure there is enough room for winch in future

After this my truck build stalled out as I saved money for my gear install. The route I was going was some 5.29s and Detroit locker. During this time I acquired another truck from my uncle. Years ago my family was big into 4 wheeling and everyone had built rigs. Well kids come along and people don't have as much time to go and play like they used to. My uncle was one of the only people who never sold his rig. It had been in the family since it came off the lot. Because of this my uncle decided to give it to me knowing that I would use it like it was meant to be used. This is a 1975 fj 40. 36.5 inch iroks, 350 v8, sm420, disk brakes all around, and countless other mods. This thing rips.

Front axle rebuild
so I got my gears and lockers done so now it's suspensions time on the pickup. To limit downtime I built a spare axle on the side so I could simply just swap it under the truck. This greatly simplified the process and made building the axle easier since I could do it on a table vs on the ground.
Made a lift out of strap and an engine hoist
Completed this swap in about 2 days. The goal was to make it to the rubicon but it all fell through so I ended up wheeling near my house instead.

Chevy 63 install
Finally got around to installing my Chevy 63s. Sadly in my rushed build to be ready to wheel measurements were screwed up and my shackle angle is trash. I have almost no travel which is resulting in my truck riding like a hard tail and she squats just a bit.
Ubolt flip kit
still have to go back and fix this but it hasn't stopped me from wheeling and driving it. Just a little bumpy that's it

Bro this build reminds me of my 1st gen build. Had the same engine issue with mine. Truck is an 82 and had 98k miles but the engine was an 85 and had at least a few hundred thousand miles. Needless to say it only ran for about 2k miles before it took a dump. You might like my build thread. https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f197...47/index2.html
