For it to survive one teenager is good but for three that is outstanding. They have done well with it. It is still looking like a nice truck.

We used scotchbrite pads and thinner to get to this stage. I'm heading to the shop for some fine grit sandpaper. Will finish it with 1500 wet, then buff it out

It got dark so I hand sanded a couple spots with 1500 wet and buffed them. This old paint looks brand new. Hope to finish the cab tomorrow

Big difference between the finished and unfinished areas

That is what I do like about the old paint is that a lot of it could be brought back to life with some effort. It still looks better then what I would of thought it could look like after being painted over before. Turned out Great!!

I seen your thread on bringing back 30 year old paint. The Appearance Section has been used in quite a while so I will just leave it where it is. I think it will get noticed better in the section it currently is.

No progress this week. Ive been busy scouring the southeast for a first gen 4runner. Think i found one that fits the bill just a couple hours from my home. Will post up if the deal gets done

Good luck on getting the 1st gen runner. 5 years ago you find them fairly easy and in descent shape. Now they dont pop up nearly as often and are in really bad shape when they do show up. The truck is shining up nicely. What a difference from the old paint and the new shine it is getting. Great job!!!

Thanks Terry. Here is the reason I haven't had any updates on my '80. I've looked at 9 different first gen 4runners from s Florida to West Virginia and finally got the one that was only 240 miles from me. I'll continue the build with the '80 but I need to spend a couple days going thru the runner to see what all it's gonna need. Here's some pics

Thanks man, the inside is toast but thats ok. Im used to buying crappy trucks. I may do a build thread, it depends on how much engine work needs done, hopefully not much but im leaning toward a HG or timimg cover or both. Its an 89. Thanks for checking in.

You dont find them in that condition around here. Body look clean and rust free. There are going to be issues with it but most are easily fixed. Other then seats and dash pad, the interior is not to expensive to refurbish. Looks like it has had a fairly easy life. Great find.

Thanks Terry. I'm going to go thru the top end and also replace the tc with a dual row. If you see this, can you move my "new to me 89 4Runner " to the build section. It wasn't the initial plan but you know how things change. Have a good one!

Nice work on bring back the original paint, I would have never guessed that you would be able to remove all that paint and restore the original paint underneath! Nice score on the 4runner too, The body looks like it's in really good shape!

Thanks Ed. It's been a lot of work but only having to touch up a couple spots will be nice. My wife still has yet to get the paint out of the body lines. She's fired haha
Thanks for checkin in

Here was my entry into the giveaway here on YT. My neighbor has zebras. Normally they are right at the fence but they barely show up with my iPhone pics.

The new fuel pump is working great. I put twenty or so miles on her today cruising around the lake and farm. My neighbors (the cows) didn't know what to think of the loud exhaust

Truck is looking better. Cleaning up better then I would of thought it would. I am going to look into the electric fuel pump for the 22r I am working on. Once you get it started it runs great once started but can be a hard start when sitting for a period of time.
