Awesome post thanks for all the pictures! I have been restoring an 82' for about 1.5 years now (also my daily driver) and I am loving it. Need to post more pics...

Just finished stripping and sanding the interior. About to lay down primer and some lizard skin. I like what you did with your frame under the bed. Might be a next move for me!

arg! I don't know what to do
I have stock height leaf springs in the back with the bilstein HD shocks (http://www.sdtrucksprings.com/index....ducts_id=10524) they are pretty stiff but the truck rides like a dream when there is a load in the bed. I'm happy with my decision.

I'm about to redo the front leaf springs with stock height and put in another set of bilsteins.

Ordered the rear springs and shocks from www.sdtrucksprings.com and it wasnt the best. They installed the center bolt that holds the leaf spring stack together upside down so the rubber spring bumper wouldnt fit flush on the leaf springs. I just flipped it over and it was no big deal. Springs are getting a little squeaky though after they have been on for about 8months. They do not carry the stock front leafs so order from someone else if you want to get everything from the same vendor.

sorry for the novel Good luck!!

Well I got a complete bushing kit from Daystar and a Aisin brake MC so I have some things to do. I think that I am going to do OME medium duty shocks and springs all around. Who is the best vender for these parts?

Also I would love to get rid of the vent windows and add power windows. I think this option became available in 84. Has anyone seen any posts about power windows in first gens?

My truck has a tow package installed. I'm curious if these are stock height rear springs or if these are upgraded springs as part of the tow package.
It looks like it sits higher in the back then most stock pickups but I'm not sure.

It's been awhile

Sorry for neglecting my posts. Blame KawaZX636 for making me feel inadequate about my build. JK.
I've been working on getting the body ready for paint and the interior ready for upholstery.
I also installed Daystar bushings throughout and Bilstein HD shocks. Also an OME stearing stabilizer.
So I've been slowing getting things done. The truck is my daily driver.
Here are some pics....

Suspention and knuckles

I've been running on the Bilstein shocks for about 3 months and I'm getting ready to swap out the front leaves and shocks with OME. Mostly I want to level out the front and rear and fix a slighting sagging drivers side. So I will have a new-ish set of front Bilstein HD's to sell soon if anyone is interested.
I also have a Marlin knuckle rebuild kit ready to go in at the same time. I will be replacing brake pads and getting the rotors turned too. So the front end will be getting a lot of attention soon. Probably next weekend.
HELP!! I can't find replacements for my brittle and broken defrost vents. Anyone got a good set laying around?

Awesome first gen!! Nice progress so far too! Do you plan to repaint it yourself?

That has been the plan. It's been 10 years since I've painted a vehicle though and wouldn't mind paying someone experienced to spray it if I got a reasonable quote. I'm going with a satin gunmetal finish buy a company called Hot Rod Flatz. Being both matte and metallic I'm a bit nervous... but maybe I'll grow more confident as my funds decrease.

Blaming me?!?! LOL Maybe I'm just more courteous to my viewers... LOL

I may have some defrost vent that you might be interested in, but I need to get mine taken care of first. They aren't perfect, but they are way beftter than yours and would work fine. I have a modification in mind to make mine little more stable and less likely to crack. I'll likely get to that im a couple weeks so tune in.

Smog legal weber

Well I ordered a california smog legal 32/36 from LCE. It was $450 and I called to ask why it was $200 more then a non smog legal 32/36. I'm still not sure I can tell you but the guy assured me that I needed the CA smog legal carb to pass visual check.
Moving on... I can't figure out how to hook up the vacuum lines. The instructions provided are lousy. Copies of copies makes yours eyes hurt trying to follow the vacuum line pictures. The real issue is that my
vacuum/emissions setup is different then the supplied diagram. I have a 1983 RN fed pickup and the diagram is for a different configuration.
Here are my questions....
Where/ what is the MC valve? Also my EGR vacuum modulator has 3 ports instead of 2. I don't have a BVSV(bi metal vacuum switching valve)
Here are some pictures...

This part isn't on my diagram at all?

Here is where the BVSV would be I believe.

Ok. I got the correct vacuum diagram from the FSM and things are making a bit more sense now.
