Finally, new 4Runner!

Hi all, after selling my 91 xcab (22RE) 4 years ago I've been missing this place thinking I wouldn't be getting another truck for a while. Funny how things change and we just signed on a 2012 Salsa Red Pearl 4Runner! We were a little reluctant with the red (as our other choices weren't available) but saw an employee's and it was really nice, the red being a little subdued and the Canadian 4Runners have the black trim/fender flares to break up the colour a bit.

We ended up getting one of the last two 2012's in Eastern Canada. I didn't believe the dealership at first so phoned other dealers and it was true. The day before there were 5 left so they were going quick.

We tried a few 4th gens and really liked them but they had so much rust on the undercarriage (for 2008/2009's)that we couldn't do it for the prices people were asking. Bodies were all in great shape but we weren't going to pay $24k-28k for something with 75,000km (46k miles) that we wanted to drive for 10-15 years. I've seen a little rust before and surface rust is normal but these were ridiculous...my '91 was in way better shape and had been sprayed for 14 years until I got it.

So having said this, is it worth spraying the first couple years as we're concerned the winters will have the same effect as these other trucks we were looking at? Or just wash consistently and spray next year and every year thereafter? My 6th gen civic was Krown treated for 10 years and looks nearly brand new so I know this stuff works.

Anyway, sorry for the novella but I'm glad to be back on Yotatech!

If the 2008/9's are already rusting underneath then by all means get it done before winter sets in and congrats on your purchase.
