The guy's been "holding onto" a car for a friend "in" Michigan since 1980?! What's he "in" for one wonders... If my friend was holding onto a car for me I'd hope he at least kept the tires full of air and dusted it once in a while...

The guy is easily in his 70's - said he and this friend had a stash of cars in Michigan in some warehouse, then he moved to California....held onto the Z, and his friend's been sick for some time.
It's a little strange but I believed him.
even covered in dust and with flat tires, that thing was pure sex to look at from 15 feet!!

Man, I love these cars, and yours looks great! There's a dealer in town with a 240z, always eye it on my way to HomeDepot. It has a lot of those Scarab body parts to it, but it has a Chevy engine in it, what a waste! I still like it though, but he was asking a few thousand too much... Maybe one day...............

Haha. People constantly ask if I'm going to put a V8 in my Z. When I'm done building my old carbureted inline six, it'll be plenty fast.
Here's a shot of the engine, now installed under my hood...

Been driving it daily, working out some bugs. So much more fun now!

Thanks!
I'm almost sated...
Are you going to do the electric water pump eventually too?
Did you replace fusible links with fuses? Thought I saw that in your first photo of the engine bay?

Good call - the headlights were notorious for being dim - the "Brown outs" I think they're called in the Z community. I think using relays and fuses helped solve it. H4 would be a nice upgrade too
I'm still slowly doing my 280ZX dash with fiberglass (out of car), and need to paint the trim area where I repaired rust, before I put the dash back and a new windshield....slow going

IMO that lady needs a tower brace... you could probably fab up a flat one that attaches to the hood latch pt. on the firewall (similar to a '67-'68 mustang) if there is not one made for her already...

I put in Hella H4 housings, and their Yellow Star bulbs...

The headlight harness was upgraded shortly after I got the car. Still one of the best things I have done to it. Later, I upgraded the parking/dash lights, with a matching harness from MSA...

Got the timing dialed in. 17 degrees at idle, and 38 degrees at 2500 RPM's. It's got a lot more pep, timed right. I decided to see how fast it could go, in 2nd gear. So, I set the GPS speedo on my phone, and hammered down. Took it to 6900 RPM's, and checked the reading. Maxed out at 78 MPH! Wow. I think I need to gear it a little lower.
