Any 29er mountain bike advice?
Looking to build up a 29er mountain bike. I doubt I am ready for a single speed yet so I ant to go geared. With some good sales lately I picked up disc brakes, calipers, shift/break levers, and a rear der. I am looking for a good deal on a decent 29er frame and fork (not rigid). I have heard a lot of good things about the Surly Karate Monkey but unless I can find it used it might costa bot too much new.
We have a local bike swap coming up in a few weeks and I plan on hitting it up to see if there are any good deals to be had. So, YT mountain bikers, I ask you, what should I be looking out for? Any good experiences with a particular brand/setup? I'm not picky at this point and price is a large factor (new baby and wie taking time off work = less disposable income for sure!).
Thanks all

I'm leaning toward a 29er for my next bike as well. Haven't bought a new bike since '99, so it's about time. I'm not really looking at building, though, so can't help you there, but I have been looking strongly at the Ibex Section29. Lotta bike for the money.

Believe me Simon, I have been reading those forums and drooling over some of those bikes. Problem is I dont have a grand to drop on just a frame. I am getting some good advice in the newbie section over there though. Very friendly crowd if anybody was wondering.

what size you looking for? since moving to AZ from CO i don't ride my KM anymore.
What's Jenson got on sale for 29er frames? Seems like most frames or framesets come rigid with FS coming as bikes. but its been 2.5 years since I built my surly.
What's Salsa got going on?

You should also check out Ebay. I am selling my XL Niner Sir9 as a complete bike for around $1000.00. (the frame retails for that new) Sometimes you can find some good deals there.
