tires for moderate offroading and deep snow
this thread is not an origional topic, but i have a 2003 toyota taco 4x4 that i use for some offroading and a lot of snowy driving and frequently unplowed deep snow, i need new tires was wondering what people had been happiest with BFG ATs and Bridgestone Revo's are of course 2 options, what are other good options that have worked well for people... cheap is good but i don't want poor quality tires and both of the afforementioned are pricy.... additionally can i run a 265/75 r16 instead of a 265/70 r16 on an unlifted truck? thanks

Browse around and get prices locally as well. I just recently bought Revos, and got a better price locally than from www.TireRack.com.

I am going to go with the Revos for all year performance and good capability in moderately deep snow.

Did not need chains to get back up that hill. I just got sucked down into the ditch by the banking on that turn. It is a paved 2-lane road normally. Could not keep up enough speed to counteract the banking while breaking trail. I did put on some chains later that day when we turned around. It started getting icy and I needed to pull 2 other rigs up a steep hill farther down the trail. For a while had both rigs in tow behind me.

I think it depends a lot on the snow and also the new AT/KO tread design is a lot better than the old ATs. I've never run into any snow conditions in the CA mountains that they don't work well in. I think the folks who have had trouble with them are in much colder conditions (below 0F), but it generally does not get that cold out where I wheel.

I don't think there is a day in Dec, Jan, Feb or even Mar where temps are that warm up here.

right but I have 15s - it limits ones options quite a bit - I am looking something around 31" in diameter (31s are usually 30.2-30.5 in diameter) and about a 10.5" width -
problem is noone makes them -well except the Firestone Destination M/Ts but that is prob too much tire for all the x-way driving I do

i have BFG long trails and they are..ehhhh in the snow...they dont compare to my moms A4 quattro with blizaks...once im in 4wd they are pretty good in the snow\gravel and dirt..mud they just are terrible in but in 2wd i get a decent amount of sliding when turning with some gravel even if conditions arent really bad
