Interco TSL/Thornbird 33x11.50-15LT

Iīm thinking about new tires... How about these? Are Thornbirds good to drive on highway? They arenīt radials...
"Fiberglass belts under the tread and polyester body plies contribute to a really smooth comfortable ride" http://www.intercotire.com/site31.php
Is that true?

I donīt want to rise my 4Runner any more, donīt want to change wheels either = 12.50"s are too wide tires. Maybe 11.50"s donīt rub badly if some minor fender trimming is done.

So, experiences of Thornbirds, please?

Btw. they look good, donīt they?

11.50 Thornbirds are probably as wide as other 12.50 tires b/c the lugs stick out of the sides so much. As you will probably find out from most people on here they are terrible in mud and were designed as a tire for show trucks.

I've also heard quite often that they wear out fast.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, just give me the money you are going to spend on the Thornbirds and just let me kick you in the nuts. All for show, I got some and I hated them. They ride like a horse and buggy and the thread will not last. Mud cakes on them and the only way to get traction is if you turn over on your side. Also my front end feels like some one took a hammer to my IFS. A lot of us around where I live got into the Thornbird crazy and all of us hated them and we couldn't get rid of them because everyone seen how the thread wore.

I'm not against them but save your $$$$ and your 4runner and just go with BFG, Destinations, Revo or anything else unless it is a show truck.

If your dead set on Interco's go with the SuperSwampers.

Yeh I have heard from several guys that the center clogs up with mud real bad but the outsides clean real good. I got 31x11.50's on mine with the big lugs on the sides of the tires like the thornbirds with the torsion bars cranked and get minor fender rub but thats nose dive coming off a hill and turning sharp. I would think 12.50's would pose an issue with rubbing. IMO....Thornbirds are all show and crappy go. Get ya some TSL's or TSL/SX's and you will be satisfied with your offroading experience. But as far as on road ride...if you don't mind the vibrating of the bias ply meaty tire and the howling...then i'd say do it to it! Oh yeh...little word of advice...br prepared to tighten every nut and bolt on it because they will shake them off on the highway!

ya, just do a search on here or on pirate and they'll be quite a few negative comments regarding them...supposedly they tried to make a tire that was good on and off road but they succeeded in making a tire that sucked both on and off road, too many compromises in the tread design to make it a dual purpose tire

I had also considered them but after searching here, public opinion was that they are pretty much a show only tire and ride like ass

Thanks guys! I learned a lot. So... they are NOT as good as they look. I give up thinking of them.

I need the tire that is good on road, roll well, is easy to get balance and not wear fast. Maybe I keeping in BFG ATs, Iīve liked them. How about BFG MTs, should I think them also? How much worse they are ON road?

Actually, I canīt get 33x10.50R15 ATs from Europe any more (nobody sell them)! Only MTs...

Hey... I found a new 33x10.50R15LT tire : Dunlop Radial Rover RVXT, I thought BFG and Interco are the only ones at this size.

Anyone tried these?

I would check out the BFG MT's because I have heard nothing but good reviews about them as far as wear and traction. I had AT's and they wore great and had good traction for the year that I had them on.

I love the BFG's. They are not loud on road for MT's and they are giving good treadlife so far.

BFG Mt's. I run 33x10.5 now, I ran 33 12.5 on an 85 chevy. I love them. When they wear out I'm getting my third set. These are on my dd and I drive a lot! Best mt in my opinion. Another alternative to an MT is an all terrain. REVO's are the best on road snow and rain tire I've ever used. They aren't great off road but do well when compared to other at.
Hope this helps.

Hey Matti, as you know I've BFG M/T's in 31x10.5 and I'm a lot pleased with'em.

I drive fast at the highway and they are good. I haven't had bad issues raining. My old Pirelli Scorpion S/T's were worse in wet!

David

Have you tried http://www.rengas-online.com/ ?

My brother had Thornturds on his old truck, and he said they really sucked in rain. The front end would get squirrely at anything over 30 mph.

Hello. Iīve heard only good things about BFG MTs, just little worries about side durability in forest. Maybe they are next tires (if I donīt order ATs from America). I thinking only rolling resistance and noise. What do you like of those compared with AT?

I know www.rengas-online.com, BFG MT 33x10.50R15LT 171,70€ in Finland. Itīs not bad offer.

I know it's already been said multiple times, but I had BFG MT's 33/12.50 15R's on my 82 Hilux, and they rocked. They really are great tires. I also has the AT's on my 86 Hilux, and they were fantastic as well. If you can get em, I'd say go with them!

I had the Radial Rovers on my 80 Toyota PU. 33x12.5. They last forever and wear like iron and all, but they have nothing for traction in rain, snow and forget about mud. I'm not sure what they are supposed to Rove on, but I didn't find it.
