Hey everybody, I previously posted a ad on the regular hero wide motersport version and had some people ask me about these. I am now taking orders on the new HD model. They should be in at my local warehouse within a couple weeks. I will be selling them for $240.00 shipped. I will be posting in the for sale section very soon. If I can get 10 pre-orders then I can let them go as low as $230.00 shipped.

GoPro keeps changing their website.
First it said the cams would ship the last week of October which has now passed.

The earlier this week it said they would ship November the 3rd which is next Tuesday.

Now today I just saw this.
Shipping begins at start of November
Since they can not ship on Sunday, hopefully this means they will ship on Monday the 2nd.

I received an email yesternight from them.
We’re expecting to start receiving stock of the HD HERO at the end of this week. We can not guarantee any shipping/delivery dates for the HD HERO. We’ll be working hard to get through all orders as quickly as possible.

Once your order ships, you’ll receive an email with your tracking info.

Many thanks,

GoPro Support
http://www.goprocamera.com
So it looks like they will not start shipping until sometime next week.
I hope to have it two Fridays from now.

Yes!

Yeah, I am excited.
My debit was just hit.
Must be shipping today or tomorrow.

Those of you who are buying from tanka are getting a deal as I am paying for shipping and the MSRP price that is listed on GoPro's site.
But I have been in line for this for quite awhile.

Good video. It looks like 720p might be the best way to go for home and Vimeo viewing.

Corey, some time ago I read that a high end storage card is needed to get the most from the HD Pro, something about a v.10. Does that sound right?

Not sure about the card Bob, but the rep I spoke with at GoPro said the 32 GB card I bought from Amazon was the best one to get.
SanDisk 32GB Ultra II 15MB/s SDHC SD Card Class 4

I need to sign up with Vimeo this weekend.
YotaTech is also working on getting a plugin installed so Vimeo videos will work inline here like the YouTube ones.
Just paste the URL and the video will show, and also play full screen right on the site here when you click the full screen icon in the video.

This is a little misleading, and I wish companies would be accountable for it.
Shipping begins at start of November. Place your order now for the earliest possible ship date. Your credit card will not be charged until your order is shipped.
Card was tapped Tuesday, and no email yet that the camera has shipped.

Update:
I contacted them and they said it ships next week.
They should state that on their site instead of saying your order has shipped when your card is charged.

Finally...
Package was shipped Monday and I will have it Wednesday.

Will mess around with it this weekend and get a mini review up on it.
I may use Vimeo to host it as their quality is better than YouTube.
Or I may try both hosts to compare the exact same video to see which looks better online too.

I got on the list I think right away when I saw they were taking pre-orders.
The camera is small!
Very cool.

I got the year, date, time, ect set, and a few other things.
I will mess around tomorrow when I get home and play back a few sample vids on my PC to see what they look like.

In 2010 I will get the backpack accessories that will be an LCD screen so I can review pics and vids on the camera.
For now you must hook it to a PC or a TV.

Bob, I guess I will have to pony up some $$$ for a good app.
I tried just now avidemux from that link, and it is terrible
Can not see a way to add effects, text, and other stuff I normally do with Windows Movie Maker.
Plus the audio playback with it stutters.

I tried importing my MP4 movie I just made with the new camera into Movie Maker, and it says no go.

Not sure if I really want to try any of these converters, as you could loose the resolution and all.
I want to keep the HD aspect of the file.

For a test though, I am going to upload a raw 200 MB file to Vimeo and see how it plays back online.

Raw 200 MB MP4 file.
I need software since MP4s do not work with Windows Movie Maker.
It simply will not import them.

Not sure if I need to go this expensive or not.

Anyways, here is a test vid shot in the dark this morning.
I will make a new review thread later when I take some 5 megapixel pics with it and a few more videos.

This will play full screen in this window if you click the X in the lower right corner.
Vid was shot with the 1280x960 setting.
* 1080p – "True HD" video at 30 frames per second produces maximum clarity and realism. To put it in perspective, 1080p video at 30 frames per second is the equivalent of shooting thirty 2-megapixel photos per second. Incredible realism you're used to seeing only in the movies. The viewing area becomes a slightly less-wide (127º) at this resolution, wide angle view, making 1080p a slightly less wide-angle view than the other resolutions. Perfect for in-car filming, for example, where you might want to focus more on objects in the distance than up close. It's like having two lenses in one camera.
* 960p – "Maximum Wide Angle" video at 30 frames per second. Certain sports like motocross, mountain biking, and skiing require maximum viewing area to capture your speed and technique. This 960p mode offers 25% more vertical viewing area at the top and bottom of the screen than other resolutions, so you can see more of your bike and handlebars beneath you, your knees and skis while you hammer the moguls, or a more of the trail and horizon ahead. Document more of you and your surroundings with 960p for the most immersive video possible.
* 720p – "Slow-motion Cinema" is possible thanks to the HD Helmet HERO's incredibly smooth 60 frames per second 720p video. 720p (1280 x 720p) can record in either standard 30 frames per second or 60 frames per second. While 30 frames per second pleases the eye, 60 frames per second straight blows the mind when played back in liquid smooth slow motion. Everything looks good in slow motion...including you.

PS, found this with
It is a converter that states there is no loss of quality when converting the MP4 to an AVI.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/mp4cam2avi/files/

Update:
Converts the MP4 to an AVI, but when importing into my Movie Maker, it crashes the program.
I may need to install an H.264 VFW codec.
Not sure how to do that though.
I hate apps that do not work right.
