Great! I got rid of the transmission wiring. There are about 4 square connectors that were about 2ft from the ecu. What are these for? Just want to Mke sure before I get rid of them. Also, I has one upstream o2 sensor. The exhaust was not factory and the trans harness was cut prior to be pulling the engine. Are the obd1 systems only one o2 sensor?

I noticed in the donor vehicle there were a few square shaped relays under the hood. Do i need all of these along with the fuse panel?

I think one is fuel pump , air flow valve in top of motor under the vortex cover and not sure about the other . If the wiring harness plugs into it then you need it . I don't have my Manual with me . You really need to buy one for yor doner truck and factory electrical manual for your Toyota .you are going to need them anyway to hook up gauges and stuff . I bought them form eBay for about $30 each .

Great to have someone else on bored! Technically I have already started. Been gathering all necessary parts. Pulled my stock engine and trans. While motor was on the stand I changed a few seals, added both oil pressure sensors and fuel line fittings. All thats left is the toyota coolant temp sensor. I plan to make a write up once its complete. Taking lots of pictures of everything. Maybe we can tackle this wiring thing together.

I went the easy but costly route . Painless harness for about $400 . Just a few wires to hook up that were labeled .

Im not sure how much of the wiring will be same since I am using a newer motor (98) but Im sure some of it will be close. I plan to just run mechanical gauges for coolant and oil pressure. I dont really care for the toyota gauges anyways...no numbers on them. Ive doen alot of reading on the wiring and have been studying the GM wiring diagrams for a couple months.

I have already started a build thread, but there really isnt anything important in there yet. Im doing a 4.3 swap, SAS, and rear leaf swap all at the same time.

Suspension Question

Hi I'm building up a 95 runner with the 4.3 liter engine. I'm using jeep wagoneer straight axles I think from a 1987. I was wondering what you used and how you set yours up and any recommendations you might have? Nice truck also

This is my first auto trans wheeling and i would never go back to stick.
Everything works like stock in my truck and looks like it came from the factory with a 4.3.

Are you trying to be smog legal ?
The cpi's mostly came with automatics so a stick might make it harder to smog cause you would have to get the computer ref lashed .

1992 to 1995 1/2 cpi's have a sliver computer under the dash. These are obi 1
smog. Also you can tell because the distributor wires will point up vertically. Less wiring . Its what all after market places sell harness for. This is the one you want.

After 1995 1/2 they went to obd2. more wires. Couple more sensors.
They have a black computer on pass fender , distributor wires point up horizontally .

You can make a 1995 1/2 into an obd1 by swapping out distributor , computer and harness , the motor is the same.

A tbi 4.3 is about 160 hp.
A cpi 4.3 is 195 hp , better heads and cam.

Wiring.
You could go through stock harness and cut out what you don't need , like wires that go to auto transmission.
I went with a "painless harness" about $400. Very simple to hook up.
You need a factory toyota wiring manual "get one from ebay about $30"
and one for your 4.3.
You will splice into your body harness to hook up gauges, very easy.

Temp sensor : buy a stock toy , drill and tap into intake water jacket , wire to body harness .
Oil sensor : cpi computer needs its own , put a tee fitting then screw a toyota in and wire to body harness
Tach : Wire from back of distributor to body harness .
Fuel pump : Wire comes from computer to pump .
DONT THROW AWAY ANYTHING TILL YOUR DONE WITH SWAP.
Here's some pic's

Thanks . In front i used a Allpro off road front leaf hanger and frame tubes. 4"
allpro springs , trail gear shock tube mounts . rancho rs9ooo shocks . In back
All pro offroad 5" springs 56 long . And spring mounts from ruffstuff . Made my own cross bar above the axle and a little forward on the frame to mount shocks and hang the gas tank to. I also raised the gas tank about 2 ". I have a 1" body lift to help clear stuff. Work good nothing special . If you want any pictures let me know I will pm to you .

Thanks . Stock distributor and coil . The spark plug wires will plug in vertically on a obd 1 distributor , and horizontally if it's obd2. My alternator is older gm for on board welder .

Howell told me I'd need to use a obd1 distributor on my obd2cpi motor in order for it to work with there harness. Do you have a build thread on your rig??

No I don't have a build thread . You can pm me any questions if you want .
Only harnesses I've seen are for obd1. So make your motor obd1. You need silver computer , speed sensor box , distributor , harness . There's a crank sensor on the timing cover you will not be using anymore . My motor was obd2 .
Start looking around for harness coupons, I had a $100 off painless from summit when I bought mine .
