Best diesel swap in 93 pickup
I am looking at doing an engine swap in my 93 pickup dlx 22re. I was wondering what would be the best diesel engine that would give me the power and the mpg. I was looking at the TDI swap from a jetta. Is there another option in the TDI engine of any other diesel engine that would be better suited to fit in this engine compartment?

I've got about 2000 miles on an aaz vw swap in an 87 4runner. Without any modifications to fuel or an intercooler, Power is slightly better than the 22re it replaced, fuel economy is much better. Never been worse than 30 mpg combined. That said it took me over 11 months to get it on the road and lots of trial and error. I've still got lots of details to finish like p/s lines, tach wiring and intercooler plumbing. Definitely not a small project, but I'd highly recommend the 1.9vw tdi.

I'm currently tracking down a good cummins 3.3 It's a komatso/cummins venture. The B3.3T model is as you may have guessed, a turbo'd engine. These are a simple '1' wire to run type engine. Simple tweaking of the IP is good for up to about 120 hp.
Phoenix castings has adapters to get the engine bolted up to AX type trans, (aka aisin)
These engines are not automotive, so are not too plentiful to find. They are out there however!
Don't confuse this engine with the common 4bt. The 3.3 is about 400 lbs lighter.
I'm waiting for a good candidate for my 94. The lightness, simple to run, and the cummins parts availability gets my vote.
Newer versions of this same engine 'QSB3.3' are common rail, and involve a buttload of wiring skills... and are probably a tad easier to find. Even brand new crate motors.
I've seen/heard of 'tuned' qsb's of over 250 hp. All it takes is $$$$$

I'm dying to import a oem toyota 5L 3.0 diesel swap and install with custom turbo. These apparently solid motors have plenty power potential, and bolt in with minimal wiring.
