2L-T Starter Question

Hi Everyone,

The 2L-T I ordered for my Engine swap does not have a Starter.
So far I have only found 1 starter available at Napa that mite fit.
My research so far leads me to believe that the 2L-T uses a 10 tooth
CW Off set starter. The Napa starter is an 11 tooth CW off set starter
Am I correct in my assumption that the 11 tooth will not work ??
Has anyone here found a starter sold in the US that does work ??

Thanks

Clancy

It looks like the 11 tooth starter is for a lift truck, whatever that is. I'm not sure it's compatible. You are looking for a 10 tooth starter, which is not so easy to find. Oddly enough, I found this one on amazon, take a look.

Amazon Amazon

Other than that, it's slim pickings. I wonder how shipping rates are from Australia?

That 170$ unit from Malaysia looks pretty good compared to the UK prices..
Toyota part number
28100-54380

~250 USD from Poland abit higher from the UK..

Hi Atlas,
Thanks for sharing the info on the starter at Amazon.com
Thats the one I need . Yes the 11 tooth is for a forklift.
Sadly there on Ebay for a mere 68.00 shipped free.
To bad they won't work.

Hi Co,
Thanks for the info. I have not talked with anyone at our local
toyota dealership. I tried napa, Autozone and others like that.
How were you able to come up with that part number. ?
When I run a search on sites like the one you list I don't seem
to find the Hilux , Surf , or other japanese market Toyotas,

Thanks again

Well I still don't have a starter for my 2L-T.. The more I research the more I'm not sure whats the correct starter for this engine.
I find listings for 11 tooth and for 10 tooth. So the question I have is... How big an issue is the 10 tooth Vs. 11 tooth issue ??
Every starter I find for a 85 toyota hilux (sold in the USA ) that had the 2L-T is an 11 tooth starter. Yet most of them I find on Ebay and the Australian
parts sites call for a 10 tooth starter for a 2L-T.. Very confusing. So thats why I'm beginning to wonder if either will work ??
